buffie
On the 20th of May 2006 the 'BIG ' battery hen rescue will take place in Devon. Up to 1,800 girls are hoping to come out and see the sunshine but having only 5 weeks to find good homes we are looking for YOUR HELP! If you can offer a loving home to 3 or more ex battery girls or know of someone who may be interested please contact your nearest Co-ordinator to be found on the BHWT website at www.thehenshouse.co.uk or contact Jane direct at the BHWT by emailing jane@thehenshouse.co.uk. 20 million hens in cages are very grateful for your support BBxxx Edited April 18, 2006 by Guest
Mrs Blue Sky
When we have built our hen house we will need some more chooks, but can't justify it right now it would be lovely to take some who really need a new home rather than buying from a breeder. So maybe someday soon we will be able to "adopt" Good luck for the 20th May!
Lesley
Can't do it yet Jayne - even if we get the farm. We need to see where we can sell our eggs - we would be in direct competition with our two very local farm shops which we don't want to do. Carl and I are not farmers and may need their help Perhaps later on when things have settled and we find different outlets?

Martin B
Kaz are you thinking of three more? Also I can't rehome any battery hens but I'll make a donation, just tell me how Buffie.
Linda
Martin, if you have a look at the link Buffie gives, you'll find out how to sponsor a hen. That seems a very good way to make a donation and take a particular interest in one chicken.
Linda
is that 2006? or last year? Well spotted Kaz. Probably best to double check before anybody makes plans.

PurpleHen
Martin - instead of Easter eggs this year - I sponsored a battery hen on behalf of my Mum, Auntie and Cousin. It's a good way of spreading the word as they get sent info in 6 months time too...

Linda
You're just trying to spread the word, Buffie. It's such a worthy cause and it can only be a big help if more people are aware of it. My daughters are really concerned about the plight of battery hens and would very much like to have some rescued birds to look after when we get more hens in the future. Every little helps and it sometimes seems that there arent many teenagers out there who seem to care - so you are a breath of fresh air! Mrs Frugal
That is so encouraging Martin. So many young people these days are only concerned with what they can have for themselves so your offer is wonderful. You are a star.
Guest
Well done Martin - at least you are spreading the knowledge - even to the ones who don't seem to care. Good man.
Cavey
Buffie, Might seem a daft question, but why is it a minimum of three to re-house? (Already got two and there is no way, even with a run extension, that we could go up to five). Regards, - Sean
buffie
Good question. If 1 hen should sadly have a short retirement then you still have a companion hen for the remaining one, they like to live in small groups and it is reassuring for the adopted hen. I think you'll find more on this on the website. Hope that helps Link for caring for a rescued hen below: http://www.thehenshouse.co.uk/caringforhens.html BBx
