New Vacuum Cleaners?

Recommended Posts

CAnnot go past the Dyson animal - its wonderful for all the cat and dog hairs and sawdust from our house.

I looked at this as the obvious choice on the web - does it go under a bed easily? Our bed is one of those bedstead things with about a foot of clearance space.

Edit - reason for asking is that my cats tend to 'roost' under the bed on a thick claret carpet - it's covered in hair and I think this is one of the reasons my cough is not easing as cat hair just seems to be all over the bedroom. It would be difficult to move the bed as its 5ft metal and heavy :?

Don't have any beds that I can hoover under

 so don't bother!!! But you can use the hose - it goes a long way and as said before the little brush attachment that comes with it could do it and the attachement is great for the car too. Mine is 4 years old now and wonderful - if it dies tomorrow its owing me nothing at all.

The problem with cleaners is not the cleaning they do but the lack of empting of the container - it really should be done every time.

I love my dyson. It's one of the very first they made. I've given it an overhaul once a few years ago with new filters and a pipe and it is still picking up brilliantly.

I'd love one of the later models and heard somewhere that they are looking at making a robot cleaner...

I've loved the ideal of a robot cleaner and robot mower ever since I first saw them in the states but they'll have to wait until the little ones are older and not likely to play with them.

I bought a Vax after my Dyson died (rotten no good thing it was). I've got two washable dust bags which I alternate, and so far the vaccuuming has been great. I won't be trying to wash hard floors with it again any time soon, as that was completely poo, but it's great at washing carpets (and works with rug doctor solutions....). But that's just me. If I could have afforded one, I probably would have gone for the Dyson Animal too. :?

I;m a recent "stupid robot" convert. We have two very hairy cats, and downstairs is all solid floors. This means we end up with tumbleweeds of hair everywhere.

I can schedule my Roomba, so he automatically goes off to vacuum our downstairs at 10.15pm every evening (11.30 on Fri and Sat). We learnt very quickly what obstacles he could cope with and what he couldn't, and now we just move the troublesome ones out of the way each evening before we go to bed.

Every couple of days I set him off to do upstairs, and he manages really well, even on carpets. He didn't do so well picking up the avalanche of shredded paper my husband spilt on the study carpet.

I empty his little bin and empty the filter every three days or so, and I am always absolutely astonished at how much dust, dirt and cat hair he's picked up. It's much more than we pick up with our Henry, or with our Dyson when we had it.. but then, he is getting into places we probably rarely did.

I assumed that after the first couple of cleans he would stop picking up so much, but every time, I'm amazed.

He does take ages to clean a room, but I liken it to using an autoimatic washing machine. If you did the washing by hand it would only take a few mins, but it taked an hour and a quarter in an auto machine. The important thing isn't how long it takes, it's how much time and effort it saves me.

He takes himself back to his base to recharge when he's tired, and the scheduling option is ideal.

Does the Roomba do a rug in a room that is on a carpet? I mean will it pop up onto the rug and then back down to the carpet and vice versa?

Hmm. Well, it negotiated the mat in my kitchen really well. The coir mat in the hall, which is cat shaped, it sometimes manages and sometimes doesn't. We have a huge sheepskin rug in the living room, and I don't really want it on that, so I pick that up.

Not sure that really helps, maybe one of the other owners has more experience.

I love my Miele :D Had it for over 14 years and it still sucks like new. They're built to last for 20 years minimum.

I love my Miele too. It's a White Pearl and we bought it 14 years ago too and it's still going strong. I've used it for lots of things I shouldn't (hoovering up leaves in the garden...don't tell hubby!!) and it just keeps going!

I looked at Dyson's but my hubby doesn't like them - he thinks they look like something a first year design student might produce...!!

My Roomba was great on hard floors but couldn't cope with carpets and did you notice I said "was"? Well she broke down last week her brushes stopped turning. Fortunatley we bought it from Lakeland so they are bringing a replacement tomorrow but now I want the newer version instead. I knew I should have waited until it came out.

Sorry to hear about your roomba Shirl, Lakeland are very good with their customer service though so good they are sorting you out. :)

Due to the sheer amount of pet hair (german shepherd) and I hoover the house at least once a day I dont think a roomba would cope in my house.

An excellent point.

I am going to use that at work where my colleagues laugh at me always banging on about my Roomba.

Sorry to hear about your Shirl.
