hilda-and-evadne
As the price of feed is rising so much and so fast -and wondering if there is an alternative to ordering it from Omlet (if you live too in Greenwich, or hereabouts) - I have been in touch with Dodson and Horrell about a local stockist of their layers pellets. They replied to say that if our local Pets At Home were to add poultry feed to their usual order for stuff from Dodson and Horrell, they would be happy to supply this. The alternative is to buy direct: the recommended retail price for a 20kg bag bought direct from Dodson and Horrell, mail order, is £7.15 plus £6.50 postage and packing. I am going to ask Pets At Home (Charlton, SE London) to stock Dodson and Horrell layers pellets but it occurred to me that PAH would be more likely to agree if they thought they were going to sell more than one bag every six months! Sooo, is there anyone out there who would also like to be able to buy feed from Pets At Home in Charlton (London Borough of Greenwich), near Bugsbys Way? If you would, please PM me. Aunty e
I already buy my layers pellets from Pets at Home - I think they're Marriages, but I'd have to check. About £6 a sack, and they do mixed corn as well.
Egg Lou
Our local Pets at Home ( Basingstoke ) already stocks D & H layers pellets and corn.. both £6.39.. so would have thought other sites would be ok to follow trend as must have been ok'd by HQ?? Matthew
Mine sell organic layers pellets at very reasonable price 3x20kg for less than £20 same price for a 20Kg bag of mixed corn
safari chick
They sell them at the Gravesend branch but not the organic ones - I did ask the girl on the till but I got the usual response - 'thats all we do'. Maybe as another branch sells the organic ones it may be worth me asking by email or in writing.
Stevie
My local PAH dont sell anything for poultry, but i guess this is because there are plenty of horsey/animal supply places already and i dont honestly think they could compete price wise. twix
have you tried the one in blackheath/deptford. they do layers, but i don't know what kind.
Richard T
We lived in Charlton until about a year and a half ago. Never saw pellets in either of those PAH. We used to get our chicken supplies (still do sometimes) from Frogpool Manor equestrian suppliers near Chislehurst - just off the A20 Sidcup by pass, next to Thompson's garden centre. They mainly do horsey stuff but they have chicken food and some other stuff.
debbie26pet
when i went in my pets at home, i asked for pellets etc, and the look i got and response is we dont do farm animals only house pets but if ours was to would be easier, as i get other pets stuff from there
Tara.F
I also go to frogpool manor (Sidcup, chislehurst border) for our pellets (organic, same type as from omlet) They are just across the roundabout from Queen Mary's hospital. far far cheaper than paying p&p they also sell aubiose, garlic powder, mixed corn etc etc. why not pop over there just to see? easy parking, and not far from you
Seagazer
Thanks for that info TaraF. I've been e-mailing Frogpool to ask about aubiose (didn't want to call as don't know how to pronounce it ). Now I know where to go to get all the stuff.
BarbaraJ
Thanks for that info TaraF. I've been e-mailing Frogpool to ask about aubiose (didn't want to call as don't know how to pronounce it ). . sorry had to at that, i had exactly the same trouble, when sending hubby he made me write it down so he could show bloke in shop lol

SharonX
Or me, had the same problem. And if I had pronounced it how I thought it should be I would have been completely wrong!
FORENSICA
I go to the Pets at home store in Greenwich sometimes, but mainly to get food for our cats. They do have layers pellets, but these are not the organic ones which Omlet sells. If they sold these, I would definitively get them from that shop!! Alternatively, if you live near the area, we could order together and share the shipping costs
hilda-and-evadne
Thank you everyone for your responses, and for the PMs so far received (to whom I will reply individually too). I will go and talk to PAH Charlton next week. have you tried the one in blackheath/deptford. they do layers, but i don't know what kind. I don't drive/have a car, and although that PAH at the foot of Blackheath Hill is a fairly easy bus ride away the return journey would be less straightforward, carrying a 20kg sack ... (A minicab ride home would cost about the same as the pellets.) The PAH Charlton is about 5 minutes walk away, so I could bring the sack home on some luggage wheels. hilda-and-evadne
This afternoon I was in PAH Charlton and they had in stock the Dodson & Horrell layers pellets http://www.dodsonandhorrell.com/uk/dh/countryside/poultry/layers-pellets - manufactured from non-GM sources - vegetarian, natural recipe £7.99 for what looked like a 20kg sack (I forgot to check whether it was 10kg or 20kg). I'll be back there to buy a sack in a day or two, before they run out!
Egg Lou
Glad you managed to find them without a fight! I guess they will stock according to demand ..so make sure you demand from now on!!
AmandaR
I had the same problem pronouncing Obiose when I first started out...made a complete plum of myself at the local horsey shop when the assistant corrected me...'We don't sell O-B-OSS, we sell OR-BE-OHH-Z
Christian
I was correct too! O B OSE! I was calling it O BOISE in a very bad French accent! I now know!
FORENSICA
As Tara suggested, I went to Frogpool manor and bought the organic pellets and abiouse. It was great and easy and just a little bit further then Greenwich We had a very nice lunch there too, however was shocked that they do not have tap water to drink . We thought that it was rather non-ecological and since it was so hot, we ended up buying bottled water
Cate in NZ
Glad to see that Charlton PAH have started stocking layers pellets. PAH Crayford have stocked them for a long time, but they don't seem to have much of a turnover and often have sacks with a very short shelf life out for sale, so do check the best before date before you buy Sounds like the next Omlet gathering should be at Frogpool manor.....that's where I always used to buy my layers pellets and aubiose from as well (and a whole load of other chicken related stuff ) . There's obviously more mad chicken keepers in this little corner of SE London/ NW Kent than I ever realised
Seagazer
I went to Frogpool on Saturday - made my husband go with me as it was the first time I'd gone there. Luckily they have a list of the bedding on the wall where the till is so I just pointed and asked how to pronounce it So now I know as well...... So are there lots of us in SE London/Kent borders then?
