Couperman
I am having a right little giggle to myself here. The Council's 4th Light Armoured Grass Mowing division has just swept down our road in a Blitzkrieg style to cut all the verges. The Lady over the road was clearly upset by the devastation the motorized mowers made and promptly scuttled out with her brush and shovel to tidy away the clippings from outside her house. No sooner had she finished and gone back inside..... Enter the 6th Royal Strimmer Infantry Brigade bringing up the rear to finish off the pockets of resistance that the mechanised units couldn't reach. Out she scurries again in her flowery pinny brandishing a clenched yellow marigolded fist to tidy up once more. And to top it all she has just come out again with her Hover mower to do the verge outside her house 'properly'. If ever I saw someone who desperately needs to get some hens and chill out. Kev. Cate in NZ
Oh bless her . Obviously likes to keep everything just so. (send her down here will you please..... I could do with someone who actually cares about housework and keeping things tidy to help me out a bit )
Guest
aaah they were round our way this morning doing verges too. Means my Eggs & Plants signs will be visible again Also means I can now park my old car on it with a big for sale sign!

chickencam
Sounds like my inlaws and the lady accross the road from me. The lady over the road is lovely and Godmother to my YD but she is very house and garden proud, she brings her vacuum out to do the cobwebs around her front windows and to clean under her front mat. She regularly makes comments about how lovely colourful and lush our garden is, but she cuts everything within an inch of it's life and has now got rid of most of her garden plants and put bark down with pots on it whic her daughter or me has to water when they are away. Tiggy
we have a neighbour like that too, only my age but gave up work when she got married, propper 1950s housewife she is scared to death of my cats & chooks, it really is like an episode of the good life, when I put up my posh polytunnel I thought she would faint, but I've planted some mini fruit trees alongside to screen it a bit, she never says no to any produce or eggs maybe she could come round & do my nets whilst Im at work - thats if I had any
chickencam
The council grass cutter around here drive round like boy racers, they think that their mowers are go-karts, well they are really We have a lovely view from our bedroom window, on the other side of the road the verge is covered with buttercups and tall white daisies in the long grass. very soon the council will come to strim them away, they do it every year just as it looks lovely . Ok so you can't see the road sign, but daisies are much prettier We give our neighbour produce from our allotment sometimes, but we are never sure if she really likes it dirt and all
Egluntyne
I mow my grass verge....the council do it 4 times a year. It would be waist high if I didn't. I don't put my heart and soul into it though! Anyone who uses marigolds and wears a pinny when sweeping grass would never cope with chicken poo!
lisaroo2
Had to laugh at your post Eglutine. I use marigolds, not cos am Mrs Bucket type, but to stop my hands drying out - I suffer with eczema on them!
Looney
Since being on maternity leave i've seen a fair few sights around here, including parents sending their children to nick the new (empty!) brown recycling sacks from the front of neighbours houses Saying that, the neighbours have no doubt made a few comments about me...first i was the talk of the street when whisked off in an ambulance in labour and since then I have been spotted answering the door in all sorts of states of dress when i haven't quite found time to get dressed properly Aaah the joys of having a small baby!! I wear marigolds to wash the car, but to protect my poor chapped hands...honest! One good thing is that I've actually met my neighbours now. The Dogmother
Brilliant Kevin I can see it as a sort of Monty Python sketch!
Olly
Some years ago I lived in a street where one of the neighbours had an oldish, but very well-looked after car, which he washed EVERY weekend, unlike me. One morning, uncharacteristically, I was outside washing my car as well ... I glanced over to see him unscrewing the number plate. He washed underneath it, and then screwed it back on again. There's clean, and then there's obsessive!

Paola
How funny I wish some people on our street would take that sort of care about there front gardens
Jules.
We have to mow our own grass verge- the street less than 20 metres away gets theirs mown by the council, but not us, even though the grass doesn't belong to us, we still have to keep it neat according to our house deeds We're currently going for the longest front lawn grass competition at the mo
