Jen&Rog
I'm SO EXCITED to be getting the 'new' ex-batts tomorrow... bit worried about introducing them to the two 'old' ex-batts, hopefully feathers won't fly. Now I wish I had a spare Eglu to put them in (hang on - then I could get a few more?!!).. Instead I've been customising a Des Res cardboard box, which one of the pairs will have to sleep in (safely in the greenhouse) until they're friends. I'm not sure the Big Bird will want to be turfed out of her Eglu for a couple of scrawny newbies! If anyone has experience of introducing ex-batts let me know 'cos I'd hate to stress them out after all they've been through. Hope to update you with pix soon too! fowlbird
our original gingernut ranger died and the vet advised two more as companions for miss gertrude pepperpot - working on the principle that when she went the other two would be company for each other... our ex-batts came from the Diana Brindlecombe centre so they had been free ranging for around a month. no real problems introducing them, just the usual pecking order and jostling for position. One of the ex-batts tended to be left out of everything but she soon learned to fight for what she wanted, No harm done at all. There will be fighting at first but it's rarely serious. I'd say keep an eye on all the birds to check that the ex-batts aren't getting too much strife but try not to worry, I'm convinced that hens sense our unease and play up to it. since then we've taken in a friend's two hens and they've all settled in happily. PS Good Luck!

Jen&Rog
Our 'flock' of 2 has now increased to 5 ex-batts; it's brilliant to have the new girls, already we can see their different personalities. We've definitely got another chatty chicken (our 2 original ex-batts were quite put out by all the noise!). Here's some photos of them arriving in the cat carrier and cardboard box... and of them in the rabbit hutch, hastily acquired today when we realised we need to keep them separate for a while. Also will try to add a video of their 'first steps' on grass. Dear oh dear, you can tell we're very proud parents!
