Ain't Nobody Here
Woke up this morning to find cones in the street and a bunch (or should that be 'forest' or 'copse'?) of tree surgeons with a woodchipper setting up shop . We used to have a view of a leylandii hedge which reached up to the eaves of the house opposite. We now have this .....

MedusA
Maybe the neighbour needs more space so they can have chickens? *lookingonthebrightside*
Cooks
I guess in some ways it may give more light through, as those hedges can be very overbearing.. although when you are used to them for such a long while and they are then removed it's such a change. We have conifers all along the front of our house, they were here when we moved in, and the neighbours asked if were were removing them, well no he didn't ask, he kind of indicated we should. I said I had no intention of it, as I felt it sheilded the house from the road and any noise. PLus it keeps the children safe in the front garden more. They are a pain to cut, but hubs has this petrol cutter now and whiz'z along, he's a very happy chappy, but lets me clear it all up!! Seagazer
Thats a shame - always better to have a bit of greenery to look at
Ain't Nobody Here
They've fairly recently moved in and have a young child and another on the way (I actually only set eyes on them for the first time today and waved at them from my driveway - I've never been able to see them for the huge hedge!) It must have made the side of their house very dark and damp - I can understand why they've taken it out but just hope they put something nice in its place. Rhapsody
I disagree -Leylandii are hideous invasive and aggressive, and when most folk get around to trimming them they look like something out of Mordor. Every time I see one I get an itchy Chain Saw finger, I must have murdered two dozen since we moved onto the farm. Good riddance I say, maybe they'll plant something lovely instead.. Tessa the Duchess
I agree that Leylandii are horrible menacing trees, but I would prefer them to concrete. I dread the sound of a chain saw in the street, our street used to have beautiful trees along both sides, copper beech, horse chestnuts etc., it was really pretty and shady. They are mostly all gone now, chopped down by the Council Apparently the Council are so terrified of litigation that if anybody so much as complains about trees being too near houses, or making pavements a little uneven so people may trip, down come the trees They have replanted some, but they are still at the weedy stage and will take years before they make the street look leafy and beautiful again. It is very depressing Tessa
Ain't Nobody Here
Well, one nice thing's come out of it. I took Riley for a walk and the woman and her parents were in the garden so I went over for a chat. She's been there a year (and I've never set eyes on her before ). She seems lovely - her baby's overdue and being induced on Saturday. They're going to put a 6ft fence in so I suppose it'll look OK. The view from ES's bedroom now reaches half way across the estate .
Blackrocksrock
Hubby does this job but not in jeans and a t shirt - you need the proper gear to be doing this on clients premises - includes special expensive chainsaw trousers which will not allow the saw to penetrate and cut your leg off! He looks like he is not wearing any safety stuff! He may be the gofor and looks like he is cleaning up - the hoover is out anyway! The hedge will be better out of the way. Glad you were able to speak to them - its nice.
Ain't Nobody Here
I didn't see him do any actual chopping - if you look closely in amongst the bushes on the right of the photo you can see a guy with fluorescent stuff on - there were 2 of them doing the macho stuff! The wood chipper was amazing . Spewing whole trees out in an instant . (I did consider asking if I could have the woodchips but decided against it.) You should have done - I have loads of them and I use them for the hens run too. They would prob be glad of someone to take them off them. We have a chipper too. Egluntyne
Did you get the woodchip for the hens?
Ain't Nobody Here
I did consider it but then couldn't remember if woodchips were OK, couldn't think where I'd store them, couldn't think how I'd actually get them (they were being spewed into a huge great lorry thing). And I was going out to my step class so didn't bother .
Ain't Nobody Here
My newly found neighbour has had her baby . Didn't have to be induced, he arrived on Friday weighing 9 1/2 lbs . I've got my eye on that bit of trellis lying against the side of their house . I'd like to see Maisie escape over that .
Egluntyne
Lovely news. I bet she'll swap it for a dozen eggs. The trellis I mean.

Ain't Nobody Here
I just heard the tail end of this on the radio. Something about it (the baby) being too noisy - and it was "just a joke" .
Cooks
Some joke, I wonder how that kids would feel when it's old enough to understand that the parents advertised it for sale. talking of ebay.. I saw a bucket of water for sale once.. they were selling eh water with a free bucket!
