...... would I really enjoy my chickens so much?

I'm quite horrified about the number of posts I have done on this forum.

Now I'm wondering- do I keep the hens for the pleasure of hen keeping, or is it because I can chat to people on this forum?

i think it's a bit of both!

I think you're right Jules. I don't think it would be the same. I used to be on another forum but the powers that are changed it and its just not the same. This one is brilliant. You get all the help you need with chicken questions and a great bunch of people to chat to. What more could you need?

You are spot on there Jules, I really enjoy the forum and feel that I have some friends out there! I'm on my own most of the time, and used to feel a bit lonely at times, but since getting the girls and joining the forum, I never feel alone!

 

It's also great knowing that there are so many wise heads out there if I have a problem with the ladies!

Absolutely right, I don't think I would have been brave enough to take on all our flock without this place either. For almost instant advice on ANYTHING to do with chooks (and ANYTHING else as well) you can't beat this place

I totally agree - if I have a query, I immediately think 'Oh I'll ask on Omlet!'.

 

I think it also helps that even though most of the questions have been asked loads of times people are still willing to answer in a patient and kind manner - lots of other forums would shout you down for it.

I've posted on a number of forums over the years and this is the best!

 

First and foremost, it's the supportive, affectionate and funny people who make it what it is. But also, it's extremely well-designed and user friendly.

I wouldn't have dared get chickens without the forum - it's been a fantastic source of advice. I would not have known about:

 

Garlic powder

Limestone flour

Aubiose/hemcore

Flubenvet, and how to administer it

Treats, what to give, and when

What to do with chicken poo

 

and I probably wouldn't have bought the Cube (or got more than the original two chickens ). That's leaving aside all the other things I've learned from the Nesting Box, Green forum, etc. It is a brilliant forum - and that is mostly thanks to having such a dedicated and sensible set of moderators.

I have never before been interested in forum, altough I am a member of a couple ( cars & horses ) but never really posted.. now I'm embarrased at how many posts I have done on Omlet in the short time since I joined

 

It has been just the best source of information support and shear fun

I love this forum and spend way way too much time on it - or so my DH tells me It does make chook keeping a lot easier (increases confidence) and reassures me I am not the only obsessive chicken keeper

I love the forum too and it certainly makes you feel more confident about taking on chickens.

 

I also agree that i feel like you lot are my friends. I don't have friends in Wigston as there is no-one around with similar interests and opinions. Coming on here, i know that i can join in conversations and others listen. My opinion is actually worth something.

 

I do belong to another forum but it is nowhere near as chatty or user-friendly as this one.

This forum is really informative and friendly. As well as learning so much about hen keeping, it's nice to talk hen talk without people thinking you're nuts!

I so agree with all you lot have said already . I've never been on a forum before but I make time to be on this forum every day (a few times ) and also often think "ooh, I'll ask the Omleteers that!"

 

The housework & ironing have suffered but hey ho, "Ooops, word censored!"ody will notice the dust unless they write in it .

 

Also, I have received the most amazing amount of support from the forum throughout my recent difficulties with my parents .

I don't get on here as much as i would like, but its still one of the most significant places stored in my mind & heart. Its a 24/7 well of information, a world of knowledge , a ton of experience and a warmth that welcomes you every time, a place where before you know it someone has come along, listened to (read) your worries, concerns or thoughts, understood them all, empathised & supported most efficiently all concerns with great ease.. if theres a problem . .somebody quickly comes along with a wonderful solution!

 

I absolutely love keeping chooks, every minute but if ever there were any health concerns etc then this place is my sanctuary. I would never have been so confident to have our chickens without this site, to begin with it was a great bonus but now it is a necessity. The information shared is absolutely amazing. I learn so much every time i read a thread or post.

I am amazed at how great having almost "virtual" friends can be. To get support on stuff that has nothing to do with chickens is lovely I am staying up far later than usual reading posts just so I am too tired to think too much

 

So glad I finally took the plunge after years of wanting chooks... and now have the added bonus of the forum!

I too have found great support on the forum, from support re nasty neighbour, to information about the broody Harriet (she is still broody by the way and getting to be a very naughty girlie....) and ideas for treats !
