Katie
Just been to have quick look to see if she's returned to the bush but can't see her Tried dropping an old curtain on her last night, but she wasn't impressed and therefore ran a mile! My dads trying to get hold of a big fishing net tonight. Part of me is wondering whether she would just be much happier being left to her own devices, as she definitely doesn't seem to like being kept in one space.. Whether it's crueler to keep trying to catch her and worrying her or just leaving her be.
superjules
Hmmm that's a toughie. I would say she's bred as a domesticated animal and not necessarily equipped to deal with life on the outside, so therefore you should carry on doing all you can to try to get her back. If she's only a youngster with little experience of people, of course she's going to be wary of you. She only legged it because she's scared. Egluntyne
You need to catch her if you can, she won't last long living free and will be lonely.
Katie
You're right. Just been out for another look, she isn't there. The bowl of corn I left out last night is now less than half full, so I think she must have been back but that could've been anything (rats etc). Katie
She's still not there I'll keep putting corn out just in case though and i've asked the neighbours again to let us know if they spot her. Thanks for all your concerns by the way xx

Katie
Word spreads fast of a loose chicken in the village The people down the road have just come across to tell us they've been told about this escapee, and she's currently living in their garden with 2 blackbirds They said she's gone back into the woods to roost, but aparently she's in their garden all the time following them around! Sending M&D over tomorrow morning with the net. Hope we're lucky. At least she's safe!

Katie
Definitely ! we still have the old eglu run, so going to put that in the big run so she can't jump out anywhere.... This is if we catch her!

Lewis
Good luck!! Could you leave the net with them when you leave incase they see her again? Try getting her in a corner and then netting her. We had an escapee chicken at the farm I work at once, it was out for 2 weeks, I finally netted it and then he rolled over and escaped from the net! Soo annoyed! Katie
Hello everybody! Well, M&D have been over today a couple of times to try and catch it, but to no avail She managed to outrun 4 people with a net, such a quick little thing! Went around again just now with my dads new contraption - bamboo cane with thick wire bent into a long hook so we can catch her by it locking onto her foot. My dad caught her around her foot but it managed to open because a branch got in the way so she was released, and legged it into the woods again. But it's so dense in their with bushes etc you just can't get in. They are going to ring us when they see her going to roost (she has her own spot on top of a bramble bush) and hopefully we will then be able to get her with the net on top of the bush. Knowing that chicken she will probably out wit us once more
Ain't Nobody Here
So how many people has this little chicken managed to outwit? Hope you manage to get her next time! (Roosting time sounds good, they are a bit dozy then!)
Katie
I know, it's quite embarrasing isn't it! Definitely has her wits about her She then decided to sit down in the middle of the grass, like she was trying to make a point of 'You can't catch me!' My dad actually got quite close with the net but up she got and off she ran ...again! Hopefully creeping up on her at roosting time will put her at a disadvantage because she can't go down, only up and to the side...into the net! If all goes well haha.
