Chili
This might sound like a strange post for the forum but I have come to realise that you are a well informed friendly lot with a wealth of advice and so here goes. For a while now (months) I have suffered with what the doctor tells me is infected roots to my eyelashes. This makes them very red, sore and itchy and the skin comes off in little flakes too. I have had both short and long courses of antibiotics but to no avail. The doctor also suggested washing the area carefully with diluted baby shampoo as this can clear the infection from the area. I did give this a go and it seemed to help for a while but now I feel I am back to square one. It makes around my eyes look very red and sometimes puffy. I am blonde with very fair skin and so it seems to make them even more obvious. I really am fed up with looking like I have had a rough night all the time and was wondering if anybody could suggest anything. I will try anything - herbal remedies, witchcraft and voodoo spells because I am really fed up with it Any help gratefully received.
Couperwife
oh, that sounds quite painful I dont know what to suggest as it is such a delicate area and you could just make more problems I think I would keep going back to the docs and ask for more suggestions, they may be able to refer you. or what about the optician? they might be able to suggest something (being eye linked and all) good luck getting it sorted cathy x
Charlottechicken
Is it blepharitis?
craftyhunnypie
Hi, my hubby used to have blepheritis. Baby shampoo worked for him & so did optrex. But he has a habit of pulling his eyelashes! I also think it flared up more when he was stressed. Emma.x

Egluntyne
I don't know if this will help, but bathing your eyes with cooled tea (no milk no sugar) is very soothing.

Tina C
My OH has problems with Blepharitis (sp?) Has also had operations on the infected thingummies (sorry have had a couple of glasses of wine) It definitely gets worse when he is stressed. Will try and remember latest advice given by his doctor. Back soon.
Tina C
Meibomian Cysts - in the link by Charlotte Chicken (or infected tear ducts). They come out as big lumps on his eyes. OH has various skin problems and if he is not careful and gets stressed it all breaks out. He was once told that there are 100s of tear ducts and until each one is treated he will never be completely clear. Bascially, he needs to keep the blepharitis under control by the other methods suggested to prevent things getting to that point. Hope the link is useful to you and that you manage to keep your symptoms under control. Edited to say - not sure if I mean tear ducts or follicles. ..lay a little egg for me
My OH also suffers from blepharitis. His doc advised him to do the baby shampoo thing too. He also suggested using hot then cold flannels to try to stimulate the glands to pop or something (not quite sure of the details!). He thought it helped a bit but then could not be bothered to spend 5 mins applying hot & cold flannels!
redfrock
I used to have something similar when I was a child - almost like a form of eczema - across my eyelids, and the eyelashes used to fall out in those areas and the skin used to flake off. I remember the doctor suggesting applying a bicarbonate of soda paste to the area, made from bicarb and water. Unfortunatley I can't remember much more than that as it is a long time ago. Sorry to hear you are having a rotten time though
Guest
My DH suffered with blepharitis when I met him. He had a cream from his GP, but as others have mentioned, I am certain that it was stress related. It all just seemed to go away once he met me! There seem to be a lot of men suffering with this. Is that usual, do you think? if so, that seems quite interesting. The men might say it was having to live with us women that was causiing it Ginette . We of course know that they have never had it so good
Guest
Well I'm all right! DH's blephoritis cleared up once he was with me. In 27 years it has never come back!
Ain't Nobody Here
There's your solution then, Chili . You need to move in with Ginette . Seriously, it sounds like a rotten thing to have - I hope you find some advice that works .

Drives me insane - if he tries to moan I just say 'hot flannels' to shut him up. He knows that my view is if something is going to help and you don't do it don't expect my sympathy. Men! Trish
Add 1 drop Roman Chamimile essential oil to 1 teaspoon witchhazel andmix well. Add this mixture to 30mls rosewater and leave to stand over night. strain the mixture through paper coffee filter and use as a compress on closed eyes. (from the Fragrant Pharmacy) Another option is to add 1 drop Lavender essential oil to 1 pint cooled boiled water, shake the mixture and use to gently wipe the eye area, again don't get this into the open eye if possible. please note all the usual legal blah blah applies, I'm not a qualified doctor, I am a qualified aromatherapist, therefore I cannot diagnose problems, esecially without seeing you, but I can make suggestions if you tell me you have a diagnosed condition. These suggestions are just that, suggestions not medical advice. Sorry if that sounds stuffy but I have to state this for my insurance etc.
