fairy cake/cup cake flavouring?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow or Friday I want to bake and ice some fairy/cupcakes to take to a Local Exchange & Trading Scheme showcase in Cambridge on Saturday.

Because I want to focus on jazzy icing (fingers crossed I don't botch it!), I'm not sure about how to flavour the cakes. (I would have done lemon drizzle but that seems to restrict the icing.)

I am thinking of using cinnamon and cloves with maybe a bit of nutmeg. Or I could use vanilla or leave plain. Any other suggestions?

I made a madeira cake and added a slug of disoronno (sp?) and it was divine. Why not experiment? You won't know what YOU like til you try it. To be on the safe side, if they're for a lot of people, stick with plain or vanilla.

Personally, I'm not keen on cinammon in cakes and I've never heard of cloves in a cake mix.

I've never heard of cloves in a cake mix.

It is most likely found in fruity and spicy cake mixtures, and goes really well with stewed fruit especially apple. If you buy some ground cloves be warned, you spend half the time sniffing it as cloves smell divine :D

I'm tempted to try some in a cake mix now as the only flavouring
