AnnieP
After extolling the virtues of having a biodisk in our garden, and being so environmentally friendly, what do you make of this.... Just had someone from the water board round. They fixed a leak in a pipe in the field next to us a few weeks ago which supplies our house. They came tonight to say that they now realise the major problem is a leak further down the line in somebody else's field, but that they are refusing access to the water company to deal with it. Now, they have given us a petition which we have to send to the field owner, basically begging them to let the water company have access, but if this doesn't work, we will have to pay for the lost water from now on! This is apparently a major leak! The pipe supplies 3 houses and we will have to share the cost. Can you believe that somebody could be so amazingly unethical as to allow such wastage, oh, and the owner of the field is a local councillor! And the field is empty.... gah! I feel a letter to the local newspaper coming on if we get no joy with the petition!
Chicken on a mission
I don't believe somebody could be so low. Is there somebody 'calm' that could pay him a visit to explain the situation? I really hope you get this sorted out soon
Lesley-Jean
I feel a letter to the local newspaper coming on if we get no joy with the petition!I'd go for the letter to the paper at the same time as the petition Annie. Local councillor would not want adverse press !

Deb Dav
Do you need any signatures for the petition? I will sign. Good luck in your campaign
Chicken on a mission
I know you must be very angry but I wouldn't use a sledge hammer to crack a nut because things esculate very quickly that way when possible they need not. If somebody could explain that not only is this a waste of water in drought times but also that his neighbours will collectively be financially punished for his lack of co-operation then I'm sure he must capitulate. If he doesn't then leaflet the whole area (leaflets don't cost a lot) and contact the papers but do give him the chance to avoid this first is somebody hasn't already explained the consequences of his action in words of one syllable
AnnieP
That's my thinking COAM. If he doesn't respond to the letter (petition), then I'll contact him and explain what my next steps will be. He's not a neighbour: Lives about 4 miles away in the village, but thats irrelevant. Luckily, one of our neighbours who will be affected is an MP and QC, (A lovely man despite his politics ) so I don't think he'll be wanting to pick a fight.... I just cannot believe how unhelpful and selfish people can be. I am sure he WILL allow access, but just wants to see us all jump through hoops first! He doesn't like our MP neighbour, so I think that is his motivation.

Louise
We had a similar situation at work When the site was built accidentaly the water pipe to 2 cottages was severed so they were hooked up to our supply and it was then forgotten 10 years later we couldn't understand how we were getting such high water bills and it turns out there was a massive leak so not only had we been paying for the water to the 2 cottages one of them had a new pond in the garden that we were also paying for and he refused to fix it We reinstated their supply to where it used to be and told the water board but he is not metered as it is an old house and I don't think they can force him to fix it
red
Has everyone checked their deeds to make sure they don't have a legal right to enter to repaid and maintain the pipes? Also - if his land is registered you could get a coipy from the Land Registry to see if he owns the land suject to any right of any person to go on and maintain any pipes etc?
