tara
We have the cube with the full lengh run plus my partner build another one on the end.Its next to my neighbours fence and they have there shed there. But there are mice living under there shed and eating my girls food.Im so fed up with it and dont want them there as there making tunnels in my run and eating there food I would never put down a rat trap that breaks there neck or legs as l dont like them but am so fed up what can l do Im fed up with looking down there tunnels and seeing there tails. JamesH
With the chickens, mice or neighbours? well the best thing to do would be to get all the interested parties together and try to thrash out an agreement.

SharonX
My cat caught a small mouse yesterday in the garden. As soon as the girls caught sight of it they took it off him (he won't argue with them he's def at the bottom of the pecking order bless him ) They all pecked it to death and took it under the decking where I presume they had breakfast I'm just glad I was drying my hair and didn't hear DH calling me. Like you I can't bare to see anything hurt. I'm surprised your girls aren't chasing them to have their dinner as well, or are they coming in when they're all locked up? craftyhunnypie
Holly cat for hire! £5 per mouse caught - she's very good at it! Try an ultra sonic deterer! Emma.x
Phosphorus
My cat wouldn't do you much good - she has caught a few lately. She then proceeds to bring them into the house alive, drop them and watch them run around the room in fright DH has had to catch them and put them out again several times. Luckily for the mouse our girls weren't out freeranging at the time but safely in their run.
Christian
If it is mice, there are probably getting in through the run mesh. Try bringing the food in at night?
tara
Thats what i have been doing bringing in the food but the chickens make so much mess its like a free for all.Plus there comming out during the day there not bothered about the chickens. Bondinho
I'm surprised the chooks haven't caught any of them yet, 2 of mine were stalking a mouse the other day - very funny to watch but there was no way I was going to let them catch it , had my trusty water pistol at the ready! Saying that, my appenzeller ran for her life when she 1st saw it in the bush so perhaps not all chooks are confident with dealing with mice! Chook n Boo Mum
Hi Tara I've ordered some of this, as we have a rat population in the area (we are surrounded by fields and a ditch runs along one boundary, so no surprise really is there?!), and although I shoot them at the birdtable, I can't near my chooks! Only just rec'd it so I don't know how well it works, just thought it might be worth a try & of interest! I assume that as it's supposed to work on rats, it might be just as good on mice, although I am happy to be corrected if not so. http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/acatalog/Eradi-Rat_Poison_500g.html I know what you mean about "catchy traps", horrid things if they catch the blighter by the leg or tail, and humane traps...who can resist those big black eyes? I must remember that they are vermin & pass on diseases, not cute little creatures!! Could never have a pet one in a cage though like some people do, yuk yuk yuk!!!! Am I a mixed up bunny?! Good luck with the mice! Sha x p.s. have never had much luck with negotiating with mice, think they see it as an open invitation!!
chickenanne
Bring the feed in at night. That's probably the best single thing you can do to avoid attracting vermin generally. Our chickens would be way too scary for mice to come into the run whilst they were around, so I assume that the mice are only taking food at night from yours, too?
