Or does anyone else notice than when you have difficulty finding your usual toiletries etc on the High Street or online they usually reappear in new packaging, which contains less than before and amounts to a huge price increase We have sensitive skin and avoid lots of nasties like sodium laureth/lauryl sulphate so I like Origins handwash which used to be £15 for 400ml it's just been repackaged so you now get 200ml for £10 which equates to an increase of £12.50 per litre! Apart from the fact that I don't like sneaky price increases, I don't think it's very ethical in respect of the environment to be increasing the amount of packaging required for people now have to buy twice the amount of bottles to get the same amount of soap, I say people because Origins won't be getting another penny from me as I shall use an alternative

 

Mop seem to have done a similar thing in that they appear to have discontinued the larger sizes of the C system clean shampoo again meaning that I pay more for less product and lots more packaging Haven't yet found an alternative as it's a great product, DH suffered from dandruff for over 20 years or so we thought and tried practically every shampoo on the market all to no avail until we tried this and after he'd used it a couple of times there was not a flake to be found and three years on he's still got flake free hair and clothes

Thanks for that link Anne, I've checked out the website and they don't do any other sizes of the shampoo that I want, might have to get onto Mop. I think perhaps it is just me noticing these things but it happens a lot and not just with expensive brands, Boots do it with their own label products and I've also noticed it happen with grocery shopping too though I'm not as bad as a man I saw on tv once who checked every single item he bought to the extent of counting the number of teabags in a box

 

I think they deliberately create a shortage in the hope that by the time we are able to get our hands on the product again we are so pleased that we don't study it too much

There's a litre of it on ebay! Seller has good feedback as well so it could be worth stockpiling if it works out a lot cheaper (I'm working my way through a Philosophy stockpile )I've also noticed it as well with loads of things. I will admit to counting packets of crisps if I buy a multipack but never teabags -lol

Funny you should mention this, because I found the remains of last summers box of Veet waxing strips in the cupboard this morning. I decided to use the remaining pair of strips and then continue with the newer box.

 

Whilst in the middle of ripping out hairs, I noticed that last years strips of wax were 6.5 cm wide, whilst this year they're only 4.5 cm wide! The packaging is exactly the same: no mention of this! Yes there are still 40 strips, but they're only 2/3rds the size!

Does anyone else stand working out the prices of loo rolls, always a nightmare as they pack them in 9's,12's, 16's etc, I nearly lose my non existent sense of humour trying to cost them up.... Does this make me a scrooge

Oooh, glad to know I'm not the only one who does that Mind you I only now buy Nouvelle but the price of those has gone up to £2.49 for 12 from £1.99 I also stock pile loo rolls

Have a look at the shelf labels: they often give a price per sheet (or 10 sheets) for comparison purposes. Definately in our local tescos, and I think in waitrose too.

why on earth am I working for a living - why didn't I get into making cosmetics and stuff like this. it probably costs about 0.00000001p to make the stuff, another £2.52 to package, £5 to advertise (becos you're worth it!).

 

The rest is profit.

I think liquid soap keeps the sink cleaner and is more hygienic than bars of soap and I've found that with a nice smelling soap that little ones tend to wash their hands more

 

There are lots of products we can't use and/or choose not to because of nasty ingredients We're selective about what we eat and what we use on our skin, my DH doesn't mind how I spend money as we both work hard for it, we don't drink or smoke, rarely have holidays, grow as much fruit and veg as our garden allows, make our own bread and yoghurt & save money in other ways, we all have different priorities according to our needs, hence my girls have an organic diet to some people that would be a waste of money.

 

If I ever find a way to make more time in the day I may make my own liquid soap In the meantime I'm looking for an alternative to Origins, they've had their last penny from me

 

It is a mad world Richard but I don't think my soap habit is harming anyone, I'm more concerned with food crops being wasted on biofuel and people suffering hardship because of it

Rosie and I mainly use Faith in Nature products, also Naked, or if my friend gets me some on discount; Aveda. None of them irritate our skin, nor contain SLS.

 

I find the same thing with products being repackaged and diminished; it's a nightmare!

Bless him my OH has very very sensitive skin and cant use soap aftershave etc

I buy him ASDA's own brand liquid baby bath and there other baby producs

and he is fine I changed to Tesco's baby brand and he looked as though he had been scalded!

Thats my excuse for shopping in ASDA he he!!

But yes, I also stand scrutinising shelf labels. But even within a store similar products aren't always labelled in the same way. I hope this makes sense, it's been a long day. When trying to compare the price per 100g for example, you come across the odd item that's per kg. Now before anyone points it out, yes I can do the maths but I thought the whole point of shelf labelling was so that you can make a direct comparison. I think I'm just naive.

 

And I've taken staff to task over it.
