Amber Star

Recommended Posts

I have an Amber Star, will post photo later, sometimes called 'sweeties' by Karen at Merrydale Poultry anyway!

I can confirm that my hen is cream with quite a bit of brown speckling on her wings! :D

Jane's right it depends on the individual bird, think of it as lucky dip!

Gorgeous. I think they are the same difference. :D

My little near neighbour, aged 9, who comes to look at the hens occasionally said she looked as if she had been sprinkled with gold dust.

She's right.....she does.

She wants me to change her name to Angelina Ballerina or somesuch. :D

They are lovely girls and all quite different. Lily is now about 21 weeks and has just started to lay this week. The photo shows her 2 weeks ago. Her face, comb and wattle are now really red so she looks a bit different but her colouring is almost white with creamy wings.

Here is my Bracken,so named for her gorgeous colouring.

Not her best view, but it gives a good idea of her colouring.

When we chose her,the breeder had hens ranging from almost pure white,to cream with no dark flecks,to hens as flecky as can be 8)

She picked us really - we had a hen in a box already,& she jumped on top of it,trying to see what was going on

She is a very nosey, very friendly girl.

She lays a mid brown egg with unusual pale speckles, & is one of my top layers :P

My Amber Star was a dirty white with bits of ginger when she arrived at POL. As she's got older she's got more ginger bits and looks a dirtier white than before. From a distance she still looks white, but she's not at all.

Not got a close up pic of her now. But she looks like a different chicken entirely.

not got a picture of my Custard ( yes, I have children - the second favourite from the teens was Borat!) but she is just like yours, Egluntine. They are all so pretty - I love the comment about gold dust, mine looks as though she has had caramel dripped on her top feathers :D

This is my Amber Star called "Freckles".. she's about 20 weeks and covered in ginger flecks hence her name!

Egg Lou, where did you get your Amber Star ? She is beautiful.

Hi got her from Merrist Wood ( I can give you the number if you'd like) but think all flocks have birds that vary from pure white to freckly so just luck of the draw!

This one choose me by making sure she was in every photo we took on our "enquiry" visit!
