Guest
Anyways we thought about getting a Foxwatch but were a bit concerned as dogs can hear it and we have a few neighbours with dogs - we didnt want to start them all off barking Ours doesn't seem to affect the dog at all - neither did it affect my mother's two dogs when they came round. I think it's tuned into Fox FM... Phil

Guest
So that only applies to Foxes in the Oxford area then Phil yep! but I'd imagine that tuning it into the Chris Moyles show would have pretty much the same effect... The Dogmother
Ey-up Buffie! Nice to see you. What an awful weekend poor Clare has had hasn't she. Huge big forum squeezes all round. Thanks Guys. Much more positive today and enjoying the remaining chooks. Pearl (our chicken lady) has a black pekin hen from the same parents as Layla for sale, so we will go to see it after we get back from Norfolk. Popcorn
Sounds good Clare! What are you up to in Norfolk? Is it a break away or visiting rellies, or both! (sorry, am I being a bit nosey?) We love it there. We escaped Christmas last year in Cromer (Country Club) and had a lovely time.
The Dogmother
A bit of a combo Gina - my folks have a house there, and we grew up there in the summer hols, playing on boats etc. My sister hates it, but we love going there, and will head off for a free holiday if my folks aren't using it. It is 3 miles from the nearest beach and over the road from the broads, situated in a little village. We have friends up there, who we see when we go up. Unfortunately, they built a Tesco store on the bypass and most of the lovely little shops in the village have closed down now as a result I have taken Tuesday off to make it longer weekend

Boris70
I have put some logs inside the eglu at the back of the roosting bars to stop the chooks getting down there. But this will give any bugs or mites somewhere to live, so I guess that it's not a permenent solution. So sorry to hear your news, layla looked like a lovely little hen - and a monster for raiding the herbs! I only have little bantams too, so I've been thinking about this in the middle of the night when insommnia kicks in, and panicking about the girls all snug in their eglu. As a more permanent solution - as mites and lice are such a pain - what about a length of drain pipe - filled with either plaster of paris - or concrete - then it should be as easy to clean as the eglu is and hopefully not be a space to harber the mites etc? Just a thought - I know I have a log in the back on mine since reading this - but the pipe may well be the solution?
Guest
It's Claret - not able to log on at home Thanks for that advice, since posting the original message I have filled a 6 pint milk carton with water and wedged that in the back - it does the job nicely
Guest
Im so sorry to hear your news was reading all the messages to you and l think its really nice how people really come together and understand this is such a lovely place to write and talk.IM still fairly new so am still learning how to do this. Was the eglu a mk2 have looked at mine and it scared me at the thought of this happening.Makes me feel like camping in the garden. We live near a farm and we was walking our lab. We saw a fox and it just stood looking at us for ages did not seem that scared. l was hoping our dog might chase it then i could feel safer with him being in the garden when chickens where out but he was to tied to even think of chasing it.The fox went to the middle of the farm as we got closer so we got down in the grass to see how close it would come there was a bird trying to get it away she was making loads of noise we think she had young some where. If we backed right on that farm then l would never of got chickens as l would have been for ever waiting for that horrible day to come. Its funny how when l have friends a family come to visit how they seemed interested at our chooks.Any way will be of now but am very sorry to hear your news and l hope your feeling better now what a lovely way to remmember her tho she souned like a little sweetie.
