Guest
Today I lost my first hen, her name was Ginger, and she leaves behind her close friend and 'cellmate' Amber, Sophie the Staffie, my husband & I. She was a cheerful and robust hen, a big Ginger Ranger. She will be missed. We have replaced her immediately with two new girls, just in lay. They are now cowering in the 'lu whilst Amber marches about being all Alpha-Hen in the run. Ginger passed at the vets, as it was the kindest thing to do. This was after a short illness, she had, until yesterday led a fulfilling and happy life with us here in Highworth. She just faded away in a day, and I will miss her. Mrs Frugal
Oh how sad. I'm so sorry to hear about Ginger. I'm glad you've got some new friends for Amber though as she'll be feeling lonely without her pal. Hope the new girls settle in quickly. Guest
Thank you all for your thoughts. The new girls are a consolation, and they are trying to hold their own against Amber. I never realised hens could be so mean , but I expect she is missing Ginger, and taking it out on Ruby and Scarlet.

Avalon Fantasy
Oh dear, its always so very sad when you lose these little feathery friends. Having rescued chikky as a day old chick I cant imagine not seeing him flap and run helter skelter towards me when he sees or hears my voice, so I do hope that your new chicks will become part of the family as soon as possible..
