Could you do a door conversion on the Eglu?

Recommended Posts

Hi Yolky

I don't have an eglu and although my conversion would not work, I'm sure you could do Maggie's full door version? just un clip one side and most of top arch then you should be able to create a hinge effect??

Someone with an eglu may be ablt to confirm if this is possible?

I have ordered the extra run frame and will be attempting the door conversion when my cube arrives on Friday :D

So to answer you question, yes I think I can do it :D but then again I think I can do lot's of things in my head, reality is sometimes a little different so I will let you know how it goes on Friday

Hi Earthchild.. They are querying converting an Eglu rather than a cube, the cube is very easy I have instructions for a flap version and Maggie has a full version. As far as I am aware no one has doen the Eglu yet but it should be possible.

Good luck with your cube :D

Ohhhhh I see what you mean now, doesn't it all get confusing when Omlet call them all eglu's - Eglu, Eglu cube, LOL

By the way Egg Lou, it is your very ingenious half flap door conversion that I am attemping on Friday :D

No worries its the excitement of getting your cube that does it

You'll be fine doing the door.. it really so very simple!

I don't have an Eglu any more ... in theory it should be possible, but you'd have to detach the skirt at the front of the run from the sides.

The other thing is, there is no extra arch that you can buy for the Eglu run, as you can with the Cube. Because it's curved, it shouldn't sag quite so much, but you might find that undoing the front makes the roof fall in a bit.

As I say, this is based on memory - someone who has an Eglu might be able to confirm. If I still had one, I think I'd probably prefer a quick-release for the bit where the run joins the Eglu, so you could just lift the run off and clean inside.

That all makes sense Olly :D .. what about unclipping at one of the run sections and fixing this with metal clips ( like my version ) so you can split the run in two? would this then reduce the sag?

I went out to look at my Eglu (actually a Rablu but run is the same) and had wondered about the possibility of making a split where the 2 parts of the run reach - only to come back and find that, in my absence, Egg Lou has already suggested this!

There may be problems if the chickens are not able to freerange in terms of them trying to escape when you were opening it, but you could always do it at night when they shut in bed and then top up food/water - putting the glug and grub nearer the split than the door.

Will be interesting to see if anyone manages it.

On a similar vein my 9 year old son has been trying to work out how to do a sideways extension on the Cube run!
