I was trawling the net and came across a fantastic website!

Had a quick (long ) browse and it's one of the most informative, easy to understand chicken keeping websites I've ever come across!

It's extremely well laid out, loads to read and incredibly interesting too. Whether you've kept chickens for 5 days or 5 yrs it's all there. Have a look. (If you want to, that is .)

Just discovered that my run is too small for 4 birds!!!!

Although they do freerange evenings and weekends, this may become an issue in winter.

I have a run 7ftx4ft (= 28sqft) but the site said 8sq ft per hybrid sized bird (= 32sq ft) Do you think may be why Gladys had that pecking issue I'm monitoring?

i thought it was 7sqft per chicken to for hybirds, i have 2 bantams and 11 normal size. my run size is 14ft x 6.5ft.

so im either just right or im a little over?

As long as they have room to break into a small gallop, escape from any unpleasantness and flap their wings they will be happy.

 

I don't think we need to get too bogged down with feet and inches

oh yes, they have under there shed we have left a patch so they can scrat around, and they free range most of the day, the only time they stay in if im out, weather to bad, or we are away and mil lets them out still for a hour or 2 then.

I love my eglu ( Yes it was expensive compared to other houses on the market ) but I think its well worth the money my only regret is that i didn't order the cube instead ( note to hubby on my christmas wish list )
