Ange1
I've just descovered that my Columbine/Created lays very pale cream NOT green/blue eggs! I love Carmen to bits now and would not change her for the world! I wouldn't have minded so much but I paid £23 instead of £12 for her!! All I can say is that is one expensive 'syrup of fig'!! I was told that there was an 80% chance of her laying a blue or green egg, so I feel disapointed, am I the only one on here that has a columbine that doesn't lay blue or green eggs! Go on, make me feel better...or maybe as she gets older the eggs will change colour?!!! Or am I just being over optimistic?!!
Couperwife
has she just started laying? I think that they "settle down" to coloured eggs, and not every egg is coloured. our eggs (or rather our chickens eggs - I dont lay eggs ) change colour slightly, some times the cream eggs are almost white and sometimes they are very dark. maybe this is it? I dont really know, someone with more knowledge will come along soon cathy x
WitchHazel
perhaps look at it this way: you have one of those exceptionally *rare* Columbines, the ones that don't lay the bog0standard-Columbine-coloured egg.[/b]
Ange1
Thanks for the replies. Yes Carmen has only just started laying 1 or 2 weeks! I like the idea that I have a very rare columbine!

The only very slight changes in egg colour may come with old age or after a moult I got a Columbine 2 days ago,but will have to wait a few more weeks before I know what colour she will lay
moomin
my barnevelder started with lightish beige eggs and they are gradually getting darker by the day. but pale cream to green or blue? you never know though!
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh dear, I've obviously got one of the boring standard Columbines that lays green eggs. Sorry .
Snowy
I bought an araucana hybrid that was guarenteed to lay blue eggs. She lays pink eggs, but we forgive her because she is the tamest of the bunch
