Shock! Horror!! Cat mugged by Chicken

Recommended Posts

I'm glad "Ooops, word censored!"ody was around with a video camera yesteday as I may have found my antics on You've Been Framed or similar....

Ludwig, my thug of a cat had caught a shrew and kindly brought it in for me, I suggested that he play with it outside so he duly did so  .....I heard a bit of bok bokking so went to the patio door to look down the garden to see Ludders playing with said shrew in the middle of the garden, bopping it from paw to paw (by now it had gasped its last breath).....at this point, Britta set off at full pelt across the garden, ran straight in front of Ludders and snatched the shrew from his paw in her beak  ....he sat staring at his paw then the heavens then back again, not quite sure what had happened....then, the other five girls started to chase her around and around trying to get the booty off her. I decided that I didn't really want her to eat it so joined in the chase.....all that was needed was the theme tune from Benny Hill and we would have looked a very merry bunch......eventually she tripped and dropped the shrew and I was able to liberate it to the bin.

Ludwig may need counselling and is still having nightmares about his traumatic interlude....I may yet join him....

I played a very similar game a few weeks ago when I saw one of my girls running around with a cast off half a mouse that the cats had left. I didn't know how old it was so decided to take it off her. Easier said than done  very possesive chicken running fast with me in hot pursuit, I eventually managed to grab it from her beak and the sensatin of cold dismembered mouse is still with me :vom::lol:

was it not possible to rescue it?

If it had, I would have, I try to rescue what I can, but it wasn't in the best of health when he brought it in, and it's often more cruel to remove them when they are like this and release them as they just die slowly from my experience or get caught again, so I let him take it and finish it off. :(

We've rescued many a fledgling, mice, even a baby squirrel once from a neighbour's cat, over the years.

They all died.

Probably cleaner and quicker to let the cat finish it off tbh.

Ditto. Sadly, not many survive. Cats are naughty but you can't help but love them

Alfie has been visiting Frank in his sick bowl to make sure he is recovering  I've had to turf her out as too many visitors aren't good for him

My lot are seasoned killers  I've sometimes had to step in and despatch maimed prey

Biscuit did the funniest thing the other night... this is a cat who loves his grub... he brought in a tiny field mouse, so I chased him into the kitchen intending to grab the live mouse from him for an inspection. he dumped it into his food bowl and started to eat his tinned food from around it (presumably the poor wee mouse was desserts). So I grabbed mouse, who was fine and popped him out of the front door where he'd have more of a chance of a clean getaway. I only wish that I'd had a camera to capture the mouse in bowl moment.
