Introducing the Hogwarts Girls

Recommended Posts

Bit of an update with some pics.

One week on and they are noticeably bigger.

They eat and cheep all day long and are beginning to develop silly hairdo's

How cute,

didn't realise how tiny they were until the photo with the other chicken. I'm not too hot on different breeds yet so I looked them up on "tinternet" to see what they will look like when they are older.

What beauties they will be, and such pretty eggs too.

Have fun watching them today, lovely names as well.

Thanks for taking the trouble of posting so many pictures as they go along, its fun to watch them grow up, even though I've only just joined!

:D

Gosh, haven't they growN

They are still absolutely adorable. I'm interested to hear how you get on with introducing them to the Big Girls.

I've had my Littlees for 9 weeks now, and it's been a long slow process. They've been free ranging together with the Bigees for a couple of weeks now, and one of the Bigees continues to chase them. Last week I moved the Littlees' Eglu into the Big Run, and had to divide the big run because the pestering got worse. No blood drawn, and only a bit of pecking, but a lot of chasing.

I'm taking the "next step" at the end of the week. What that "next step" is depends on whether the chasing has reduced or not.

I'm just in the process of mingling my older girls with the Three H's, Hester Hermione and Hebe, who must be about 24 weeks now....I lose track .

They have bee free ranging together all day most days now for a couple of weeks, but still sleep separately.

There has bee a bit of minimal scuffling, that is all, and intriguingly, it is Ola, one of the ex-batts who is the main perpetrator. Previously it has always been Atilla the Hen.

Interesting how the dynamics within the groups shift and change.

Good luck with your merge WhitchHazel.

I too am mid-merge, as it were.

Violetta and Gabriela are 19 weeks now (note to self to take some pics). They have been mixing with the big girls in the walk-in run for about a week - increasing a bit at a time. Yesterday I gave both eglus a thorough scrub out and had them out together throughout. They tend to try and keep away from the big girls by perching on top of their eglu run, but there is the odd skirmish, Treacle and Squib being the main culprits. Muggle, as usual, is oblivious to it all, being in her own little Muggly world. Toffee and Scully seem to be leaving them alone for the most part. Mainly because they are too busy scoffing their grower pellets!

One surprise was when I went to take the egg port door off V&G's eglu, only to find Treacle in the nest, laying one of her, currently very rare, eggs. Obviously she was just waiting for the opportunity to lay in there!
