Just to let you know that, early this evening my Hen Suki died. On chic clinic I expressed my anxieties this morning about all the hens, and of course, Suki in particular. I called my Husband from my work and he came home early to find she had died. Suki was'nt in any pain. I had put her in a wicker box filled with bedding. Before going to work at lunchtime, I managed to hand feed her some water with lifeguard in. I also had bathed her in warm water in case she was egg bound. But vent was squeaky clean and free from eggs. Also, I examined her skin near the feathers. She was perfectly free from mites or lice. In fact, apart from her keeping falling asleep she looked like a prize chicken. I had a cuddle with her and kissed her neck. I loved her. I will miss her. But I do'nt regret a single minute of caring for her. I knew that she was happy. Also, this morning the others were really tetchy. I guess they knew something was amiss. The rest of the flock will really miss her too. So Love you little Suki and I celebrate your precious life which I will remember always xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There is sympathy or empathy between critters. When my lovely Jack Russell died and was laid out across a bench, her daugher respectfully sat watch beside her.

Earlier her mum had carefully welcomed her home after she had been spayed. None of the usual "I'm top dog" aggression which characterised to race to the food bowls.

We human beings could learn from that.
