Jewels
My girls arrived on Wednesday and I was going to put my cube and girls on bark chippings, underneath this though is that anti weed webbing (put down by previous owners of house) no grass underneath at all, at the moment the girls are on my grass and seem to love scratching and pecking it so feel bad if i move them onto the bark area with no grass whatsoever underneath it. As i work full time they will not be able to free-range until i get home and at the weekends. I have been moving the cube around the grass. Can anyone tell me if they would be better off left on the grass or should I put them on the bark area as planned? some advice please, thanks. Christian
They will be fine without grass, as long as they have something to scratch around in. Supplement their diet with fresh greens though
Ain't Nobody Here
I think they would be absolutely fine on the bark chippings. They'll ruin your grass pretty quickly in any case! If you let them out to freerange on the grass whenever you can, they'll be fine . My girls don't have grass in their run.
Jewels
Thanks Christian, my friends and I came to one of your hen parties at the end of April this year, it was very informative and fun (the scones etc were yum too!) Josephine and Georgina arrived Wednesday. Like I said above I was going to put them in bark area but when omlet man arrived to put it together my bark area was not big enough (tut tut hubby) and it was put on the grass, they do seem to like the grass. Any ideas on keeping the flies down, i poo pick as often as i can, put a bit of auboise on the grass and the flies seemed to die down a little. Egluntyne
I think I'd be inclined to remove the anti weed webbing , but apart from that, they will be fine. As Christian says.......plenty of greens! You might want to consider woodchip instead of bark.
Guest
When my eglu arrived I put it on concrete that had weedproof membrane and bark chippings. They love being on the chippings and scratching about for bits of corn, but I removed the weedproof membrane pretty soon as they scuffed it all up.
