Rain Rain

Recommended Posts

We've just had a fantastic thunder and lightening storm here. Mind you wasn't impressed with the sideways rain

More forecast today.

Would have thought us folk in Lancashire and Cumbria were used to horizontal rain.

Feel sorry for chooks though :(

My run is roofed over but I've just ordered a tarp for the winter to keep the rain and wind out from the side .

My run is roofed as well but I think we're going to have to get something to cover the sides. Have wondered about tarp but am bothered about it being too flappy in the wind.

It is chucking it down here again today, we had sunshine and showers yesterday and very strong cold wind, very autumnal :(

The forecast is even worse for tomorrow.

We covered our run with long corrugated clear plastic sheets over the bank holiday weekend when we changed the bark chipping to try to keep the girls dry but a fair amount of water has dripped in off the sides already.

I have lost several sunflowers which have snapped in the wind and the ones that have flowered have had sad little flowers on them as though they didn't dare to show their faces in the rain :( The sweetcorn on the allotment isn't ripening either because of the lack of sun.

It's horrible here as well. We got totally soaked dog walking in the woods earlier!

We moved the cube to No 2 position at the weekend to give the ground a rest - but the new position is slightly more exposed than the last, but it is on grass (or was!). The run is covered with plastic sheeting held down with bungies and the Omlet cover along the side of the run, but the rain is running down the bungies into the run! The middle is dry though.

Luckily yesterday (between the showers - when it was sunny and warm), we cut up the old roosting bars to make 2 roosts for the run - so the girls can sit above the ground (they've got a high one and a low one - spoiled for choice!). The rest of the garden is totally soggy - so I'm not letting them out of their run today as it doesn't look like it's going to stop raining anytime soon! :(

The other day they were out and about when it was raining heavily - Bunty stayed under cover, but greed got the better of the other two and they ended up looking like drowned rats!! (Happy as anything, but they did look funny!) I relented that night and let them sleep in the warm and cosy nest box!!
