Rooney-what an**************(fill in your own word or words)

Recommended Posts

Why does he not sing the national anthem?????????????????????????????

Does he not know the words maybe?

Does he have a "Ooops, word censored!" singing voice?

Does he think it makes him look hard?

Whatever it is, it shows his lack of pride playing for England!

All the other players sang(except hargreaves who just sort of moved his mouth in a mumbling fashion),but Rooney never even opened his mouth..................................  :evil::evil::evil::evil:

Rant over.

I've seen players in other teams not sing their national anthem. I think it just depends on how they want to psyche themselves up for the game. Let's be honest - it's not exactly a great anthem. :D And if he hasn't particularly got a soft spot for the Queen, well, why sing it?

true, but as the old saying goes "there is no I in team"

it is possibly cos i dont like rooney, but he should be proud to play for his country and at least show a little bit of enthusiasm rather than being the misereable sulky teenager image he seems to like to portray.

Well he's young, very talented, has an attitude, too much money and a huge ego - what do you expect?

To me, the old saying is out-dated. Of course there is an "I" in team - everyone is an individual and everyone has opinion, but they are all working towards a common "goal" ( :D ). If he doesn't want to sing it, good luck to him, he is talented enough for us to forgive him that.

And I should point out that I don't particularly like him either!

I don't think singing the national anthem is optional. Rooney is representing our country and if the team is singing the anthem, then he cannot opt out. If he's lost his voice, he can mime, but he mustn't look as if he doesn't care.

The plain and simple fact is, Rooney is an idiot, who has come into fame and money very early in his life, and just doesn't seem to be able to handle himself as someone in his position should.

He has a foul temper on the pitch (did you see him face up to the linesman last night  ), and, despite his talent, is an extremely poor ambassador for both his sport and his country.

He's in a position to influence so many youngsters, to encourage them to keep fit, play sport, ENJOY sport, but instead he handles himself like a spoiled toddler.

Don't even get me started on his 'off-pitch' activities...:roll::roll::roll:

So what would you have them do - leave Rooney out of the team because he doesn't sing the anthem?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Yup, he's got some work to do on that. :D

He's got raw talent and rough edges. When it comes to playing football he is very, very good at what he does. But do we have to expect people in his position to win "sports personality of the year"? :D

The fact is, Rooney is watched and adored by so many people because of his talent, he probably would be in the running for stilly awards like 'Sports Personality of the Year' . The fact is though, if he is mature enough to play such brilliant football, and earn such a MASSIVE wage, then he should be taught how to manage himself in public. A team such as Man U (that is who he plays for, isn't it? ), must surely be concerned at the image that Rooney gives out.

I personally don't care whether they sing or not - give 'em a break, they're very nervous and trying to get over that awful "waiting-time" before they have to perform on a world stage. For some people lustily singing the National Anthem is just the tonic they need - for others it isn't..

Besides which Maybe Rooney's a republican ? (I am... )

Besides (once more) "God save our gracious queen" is the British National Anthem - why we sing it when only England are playing is beyond me... (believe it or not, some scots and welsh don't want England to win!!)

all of which reminds me of John Redwood's famous attempt to sing Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau...

he will be embarrassed by that for the rest of his life - and so he should be!!! I must go and find a video link to remind myself just how toe-curlingly embarrassing that was!!

Well..... I guess that's true. But on the other hand I think they like the fact that he's a bit of a wild child and a headline grabber. All publicity is good publicity and adds to the hype.

There have always been baddies in sport: John Mackenroe springs to mind. George Best, Alex Higgins (if you can call snooker a sport). Daley Thompson was hauled over the coals if I remember rightly for whistling through the National Anthem whilst getting his olympic gold.

I personally can't bear Rooney, but can't see why all sports stars have to be like Gary Linnekar. Should all pop stars be equally well behaved? Film actors? Authors? In fact anyone who shows their face in public, or who represents soemthing which they may or may not believe in?

If these characters weren't around life would be very dull.

I thought it was hysterical when he was pulled off the pitch and started throwing his boots around. Reminded me of a two year old.

Bad examples are needed just as much as good ones!

I don't really think it matters if they sing the national anthem or not. It's not in their contract I'm sure. The reason Hargreaves didn't sing it is because he was secretly mouthing another anthem as he is a closet German. I used to think the only reason Hargreaves got on the pitch was because he had some saucy photo's of Sven & Ulrikka but give the lad credit, he has done well in midfield and at left back the last two games. As for Rooney, attitude or not, we can't progress without him and i think the best is yet to come from him.

Phil said the following, before I accidentally deleted it....

(sorry Phil)

(or - possibly worse - David Cameron...) But I'm not sure how you think that would be any different to what we have now... Queenie doesn't actually decide anything...

I can't really summon up any animosity toward the royals anymore - they seem to have cut back on the "hangers on" so I have no real axe to grind.

I don't think you have to have any animosity to be a republican (I must go and re-read the Republicanism for Dummies book again! Cool )

the queen's comes across as a nice person (from the distance I see her!) - but I'm very unhappy to be funding Prince Philip - and (come to think of it) Prince Charles..

some of Prince Philip's highlights (if we're having a go at Rooney - then he's surely fair game too!!!)

While he was with a group from the British Deaf Association who were standing near a band, he pointed to the musicians and said: "Deaf? If you are near there, no wonder you are deaf."

He told a Briton he met in Hungary in 1993: "You can't have been here that long - you haven't got a pot belly".

In 1995 he asked a Scottish driving instructor: "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to pass the test."

The Prince angered local residents in Lockerbie when on a visit to the town in 1993, he said to a man who lived in a road where 11 people had been killed by wreckage from the Pan Am jumbo jet: "People usually say that after a fire it is water damage that is the worst. We are still trying to dry out Windsor Castle."

During a Royal visit to China in 1986 he described Peking as "ghastly" and told British students: "If you stay here much longer you'll all be slitty-eyed."

At the height of the recession in 1981 he said: "Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed."

In 1966 he provoked outrage by saying: "British women can't cook."

The Prince was visiting the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park in Carins, Northern Queensland. The Prince was shown around by Ngoonvi. The Prince was told that two Abroginal tribes that run the centre: the Djabugay and the Yirrganydji. Queried the Prince: "Djabugay and the Yirrganydji, what's it all about? Do you still throw spears at each other?"

"It looks as if it was put in by an Indian" - pointing at an old-fashioned fusebox in a factory near Edinburgh in 1999.

In India visiting a site where the British army, in the years of the Empire, had slaughtered Indian civilians, He was shown a plaque commemorating the 2000 killed to which he quipped "No, no, we didn't slaughter that many"

Told a mother who had recently lost two sons in a house fire that:-

"smoke alarms are a damn nuisance"

If Prince Philip can't be a decent role model - I hardly think we can expect young wayne to be...

I agree Phil (is he your namesake?), Prince Philip is quite outrageous and I can't really like him. I try to excuse him because of his age, but as you have shown, he hasn't always been old!

However I have to disagree with you about Prince Charles, he is a decent man with all the right principles. (I know the marriage thing is a big issue, but as I see it he was under a lot of pressure and made a mistake by following poor advice. He is now with the person he originally chose and I think a lot happier. I can't judge him for any of that.) He is into greener living, fairer trade, living off the land, making his own income, supporting the Arts and architecture etc. The Prince's Trust is excellent. He has done a wonderful job with his two boys when it could have all gone so badly wrong after the death of their mother.

I'm not that fussed about Charles's wedding - or what he did with Camilla (and anyone else, male or female) while Diana wasn't watching.. (allegedly)

but I'm not sure that his green words match his lifestyle or his actions..

The Prince's Trust is great - he's not Beelzebub! - but (to the extent that I have encountered him - which, to be fair, is only on the TV and the radio!!) - he comes across to me as a hugely arrogant, nasty old s"Ooops, word censored!"... I'm not at all convinced that his green words match his lifestyle...

but... I guess none of us know him properly to judge... we can only go by distant impressions...

(come the revolution, I'd see Prince Philip against the wall before Charles!!)

thats exactly it, he should look like he cares, if he isnt to careful he will be setting himself up for a very big fall from a very great height. the other players in the England squad must get sick to death of hearing how the team can't possibly cope without Rooney. they can.

he doesnt seem to be able to control himself when things dont quite go his way and this does reflect on all the team. his manager and his captain should be moulding the talent that he has, not letting him get away with every little tantrum he decides to throw.

I used to think I was a republican but then I thought about what that meant... Someone like Tony Blair as head of state! [shudder].

...You mean he doesnt already think of himself as the God-appointed head of the country?!?!?!?

Give me the Royal family any day over that! at least they are a tourist draw - who in their right mind would want to come to a Britain presided over by King Blair (apart from anyone who wants free healthcare, benefits etc)?
