little chickadee
Hi all. A strange request I know. My 7 yr old lad has watched the 3 original Star wars films and was desperate to watch the ones which are set before them. We've been given them for his birthday by his uncle but didn't know that "Revenge of the Sith" was a 12, we just thought it would be a PG like all the others. Has anyone watched it. How violent is it? Is it suitable for a 7 yr old? Many thanks
Geoid
The BBFC says: 12A – Suitable for 12 years and over. No-one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video or DVD. Responsibility for allowing under-12s to view lies with the accompanying or supervising adult.Theme Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers. Language The use of strong language must be infrequent. Racist abuse is also of particular concern. Nudity Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet. Sex Sex references may reflect what is likely to be familiar to most adolescents but should not go beyond what is suitable for them. Violence Violence must not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated. Imitable techniques Dangerous techniques (eg combat, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on imitable detail or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised. Horror Sustained moderate threat and menace are permitted. Occasional gory moments only. Drugs Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or instructional.
jomaxsmith
I don't let my 4 and 6 year olds watch it (although they have done before - bloomin husband) because the end is quite nasty - poor old Anakin loses his legs in a river of Lava then gets put into the Vadar mask. I'm probably completely wrong and a proper SW nerd (oops sorry, fan ) will put me right in a moment! Mine are actually not at all interested in the films but love the Lego Star Wars games and all the merchandising! Jo
Mrs Frugal
Speaking as a mother of two Star Wars obsessed boys, I know the films backwards ! Revenge of the Sith is bit gruesome in places, especially the end as jomaxsmith has already said. It's darker in content as Darth Vader is beginning to emerge. Watched with parents though, your 7 year old would probably be unphased. There's nothing nightmarish in any of the films and if he got through the previous films without being scared of the Rancor or the Sarlacc (see how sad I am ), I don't think there's anything any worse in Revenge of the Sith than in the other films. blackpuddinonnabike
Yep, I'd have to say that there's nothing really worse than the other movies (especially Empire Strikes Back which was pretty dark, or Return of the Jedi when Vader's helmet is lifted). The only real problem is... They're awful compared to the originals!
Clur
I'd say it depends on how sensitive your 7 year old is. I wouldn't let my 6.5 year old watch it or else we'd have sleepless nights for weeks! Can you watch it first and make a judgement call on it from that?
Helly Welly
DD watched it when she was 7 and was completely unfazed but then she generally is unfazed about films. She seems able to distinguish fantasy violence from reality, i wouldn't let her watch a film which wasn't in the sci-fi genre if she wasn't old enough just because of the realism. It really depends on your child, i would watch it first to see what you think.
