Mystery eglu button - quick question

Recommended Posts

We have had our eglu 3 weeks and I still have a small question (Ha - when I asked other eglu owners this, they looked at me as if I was from space, but couldn't answer!):

What is the little hairy button inside the lid of the eglu for please?

Does it become a squeeky toy at night? Does it blow up a house down the road? Or maybe it's an MI5 surveillance webcam...?

Maybe I am going mad after all...

No, it is springy and goes in when you press it. Quite extraordinary.

Maybe I should get out more...

......... only if it's to look at chickens or chickeny things :lol:

Welcome to the forum ........... nothing like an intriguing question to keep us amused :D :D

I have a small "hole" indented circular bit which has plastic fibery bits in it- I always presumed it was how the eglu is manufactured i.e. held in place on the mould there, or something.

Sounds like that may be the answer Jules - I have something similar on my eglu  I think some may be more hairy than others :D

Well thanks for all the replies and welcomes! So it seems likely it is a 'tummy button' from the moulding process, with a bonus hairy spring loaded button just for me...

When I got home I was busy moving the eglu to a fresh patch and it got too dark to take a pic. In fact it was too dark for the girls to find their way home. They all jumped on top of the run and made squeaking noises. But I employed the torch-through-the-egg-hatch trick and they went straight in!

A better description? It does not fill the hole, but stands proud with a gap all around. It is a buff colour, rounded like the top of the London Gherkin building (but smaller) and seemingly made of fine spun fibre.

I was only asking as I didn't know whether it was OK to get it wet, when cleaning. It will probably turn out to be the pupa from a nesting tarantula or something - and I've been poking it. All this helps take my mind off poo picking!

Thanks again everyone.
