Plum
A really heartwarming story. Sounds like you are doing a really good job. Would love to see some pictures of the paintbrushes.
Alfred
One of mine has the little paintbrush feathers too. It's amazing how fast they grow! I am a little worried they are feeling the cold though, especially the two bald ones. I brought them into the house last night as it was so frosty. They seem to be active enough but haven't laid any eggs for about a week. Has anyone tried making them little jackets? and force fed chemicals to make them lay eggs. By the way battery hens are not fed chemicals to make them lay eggs, they are fed on normal layers mash!
HnM
I agree. We got 2 in May. One died a couple of months later but not before she'd had a taste of a fabulous free range life! The other goes from strength to strength and is a confident, fluffy layer of an egg every day (so there, farmer!). It's really rewarding, isn't it. I would recommend it to everyone, except that our vet said sometimes they can bring infections and wipe out an entire existing flock. Not sure that's really true because they get anti-biotics while in the factory, don't they?
dancing cloud
I love my ex-batts too Mine have been out for 5 months now and are totally transformed - still bald in places, but happy confident greedy and very cheeky chickens for everyone at BHWT who made it possible
