tom123
For Christmas I am getting two new POL hens to go with my 2 silver sussexs. However I wanted a Bluebelle and a Light Sussex however I was advised not to get a light coloured hen as she would not mix well with three dark coloured hens. What do you think? Has anyone introduced a light hen with three darker hens??? Thanks Tom + = or
Christian
Yes I have! A light sussex, silver sussex and a grey maran to two pepperpots. The theory is that the 'old' chickens won't recognise the new ones if they are the same colour Rubbish if you ask me. I don't think the colours matter in the slightest personally. They still realise that they are 'strangers'

alih
Don't have masses of experience but was told that a black hen would not be bullied - but my Iggy was the scaredy cat of the 4 and she was the only black one - and the white one held her own against the big ones from day one - I reckon it's an old wives' tale, but will of course bow to greater experience if proved wrong! Sandychick
I introduced an amber star to my pepperpot and gingernut - it all worked out well and they all live harmoniously together! I'm not actually sure if my chickens know what colour they are themselves??!! I don't think they would be fooled regardless of the colour, they will notice the new ones and be equally unhappy about it whatever colour they are! chickenanne
Old wives tale: I have 4 different coloured chicken, one white, one black, one redish (a rhode island) and one buff.
ChrisP
I have too! I had a Miss Pepperpot, 2 Gingernut Rangers, and a Light Sussex, so together, and they were absolutely fine. The and one of the paired up, as did the other and and there were no problems with them as a 4 either.
Old Speckled Hen
Don't know about what colour the hens think they are but they wouldn't go near me in my new bright pink running top.... yes I know, but it's a good colour to wear along the country lanes when the light is bad . They wouldn't even take a grape!! I took the shirt off and hey presto they ate my fingers as usual. Strange.
Scramble
One brown one lavender, no conflict.... unless you count who gets to sleep in the 'cosy corner' of the eglu
keyhole kate
The colour of other hens does not seem to make any difference at least to mine but obviously food colours do I usually give my girls gala apples red/green but OH was given some of the Big Red (snow white type ) apples at work when I rolled one into there fenced area they all looked horrified and ran as though I had rolled a grenade in I wish I had been filming them I shouldn't laugh but it was so unexpected and very funny
Janty
I've introduced all kinds of colours. I have lemon, lavender, black, brown, ginger, splash, blue, etc. Take it slowly and follow the advice given in the 'stickys' and you shouldn't have any problems.
