buffie
I am now looking at abel and cole (is that the name?) I have seen in the catalogue at the bottom of the page, in farmers Choice 'FREE RANGE', that it says 'suppliers may vary upon product demand' but that being the case you can't change it for just farm assured. I think what I was told on the phone is not actually the case and now feel disgruntled and it will take a lot to change my mind I took ages asking every question that mattered to me and most of the other things have been from the farm specified in the catalogue. Will see what they say. BBx
buffie
Well I am no longer able to recommend Farmer's Choice Free Range because having spent 30 minutes telling the sales chap about my beliefs and how important free range is to me and I wouldn't feed my pets any other raw meat I realised I have been sent some BROILER meat ( the source was named, said farm assured and not free range so I checked on line). Now this may well be a good unit as it is recommended for it's welfare but I specifically asked the question and was given an assurance. That isn't acceptable to me, it's mis-selling and I have said so by email. They say they cannot source all the free range meat cuts until next year but that doesn't help me. The brochure mentions that meat may come froma diffent supplier (you would still expect free range) but I ordered off the on line store whilst speaking to the sales guy and had no idea. I am livid over this...but I will order elsewhere now. BBx Edited August 16, 2006 by Guest
AnnieP
You go get em Buffie! That's outrageous! How many of us buy products thinking we're doing the right thing, when really, we're just being mislead?
Lesley
That really does take some believing doesn't it I have to go and see the butcher we use this afternoon - I know they sell free range chicken so I must find out if there is a source of 'bits for dogs' available. Would raw meaty beetles count ? - we seem to be overrun with them but Jazz loves rooting them out and eating them I'm still training her with spiders We found out at the vets yesterday that Jazz does far more walking than most little puppies - only gentle, not over excersize - and when she keeps looking in her food bowl then she probably is hungry and not just greedy We have read all about Labs being greedy and becoming overweight and we kept reading the Burns pack to see if we'd got it right. We kept weighing the food, and checking especially as she's not going to be the biggest labrador in the world, but we can give her more food
buffie
You have to adjust for the activity and the individual lesley, fat puppies aren't good but skinny ones aren't either. We had such probs with daisie but she looks fab now. Shes' been chewing a marrow bone for 40 minutes outside she is in heaven!! Ordered more meat from sheepdrove organic farm online BBx
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear about that experience Buff - that really is outrageous! Are you able to source from elsewhere or see if a farmer at your local farmers' market can supply you with bits for the animals? They are usually easier to talk to face to face and you can check the sourcing of the meat directly then. I've started buying my all my meat at the Stratford market now and have had some interesting conversations with the farmers there - they totally understand our point of view. How's Mike getting on with his meat eating now?
buffie
Oh he has had all sorts Clare , all sourced to his liking and he won't eat supermarket meats, not even organic. I am going to have organic turkey this christmas as I have found a supplier I am happy with BBx
buffie
I don't believe it This response from Farmers Choice Free Range QUOTE Hello Mrs Cox And thank you for your email though obviously a little disappointed that you have decided to cancel further orders. As I mentioned we are striving towards being able to produce the market for all the joints of chickens from the free range farm but as yet production is not high enough. All our Whole Chickens, and quarters are Free Range. As an offer until such times I would be pleased to offer our Chicken Breast Fillet with a 10% discount and hope you might reconsider your decision. I look forward to hearing from you. I don't think I'll be taking them up on their offer BBx Edited August 17, 2006 by Guest

Lesley
Help!!!!! I gave Jazz her first raw meal at lunchtime today, and a meaty bone which she really loved. She's still on 3 meals a day and I thought I'd ease her into raw food in case it upset her tummy at first. I gave her the usual Burns dry food for her supper and she turned her nose up at it She has been woofing it down. I've tried putting a little veg stock over it to dampen it but she's still not interested. She's not hanging around her food bowl - perhaps she's not hungry and the raw lunch and bone have filled her up?

The BARF diet can be more filling so i wouldnt worry too much, as long as she is drinking & both types of the messy stuff are coming out the other end & look 'normal', Im sure she will let you know when she is hungry. Lesley
Thank you both. I think she was just full. She played as usual before her bedtime and went out last thing to pee and didn't even look in her food bowl on her way back in. She went straight to her bed. We did have an accident in the night though. She was whining and we didn't get there quickly enough, she left a small present in her sleeping area - the first since we've had her. Carl took her out for a pee and she still didn't look in her bowl and went straight back to sleep until 7.15. Then she ate her dry food - as usual The bones are very handy when you've got work to do. She was with us yesterday as we made the temp. shelter for some chickens and we didn't have to keep running around with a tug toy or the ball - she was getting plenty of excersize attacking the meaty bone, quite happy just to be by us. theherd123
Really gald to hear she is ok & has eaten again this morning. Dont worry to much about the 'accident' they will happen occasionally esp at night as by the time you have woken up & registered she needs to go out it can sometimes be too late. Poppy was like that for a while too
The Dogmother
I remember doggies doing that Luckily Biscuit has now learned to use the cat flap, so the litter tray (yuk) is on the way out. He brought in two mice last night (little field mice), and dumped one of them on the bed! Luckily it was dead. There was no way that I was going out in the garden in the nuddie to get rid of it, so I opened the bedroom window and lobbed it out - I do hope that no-one was passing at the time Phil had passed out by that time after drinking loads at Buff and mikes fat lot of use he was
