Ain't Nobody Here
My phone has gone phut . I thought it was the battery but charging it isn't working . I tend to leave my phone on constantly and just charge it every 2 weeks or so. Is it possible it just needs a new battery? (I've had it a couple of years.) Perhaps I just need to nip along to the Orange upgrade website for a nice reconditioned mobile .
Tessa the Duchess
Rotten luck ANH My mobile died last week, I had it for about 4 years but I loved it and I actually knew how it worked I bought a new one last week, and I hate it already, I'm thinking of putting it on E.bay. Be careful what you buy. Tessa
Valkyrie
Oh no, I am so sorry for your loss. You'll have to ask Fred about the technical side of things! It is awful being without it - even though I rarely use mine - it's the safety aspect, ie, what if I break down in the car, etc. I think ours came from Carphone Warehouse (but mine is usually OH's handmedowns). We had to replace our home phones today, got fed up with conversations with mum going "helloooo, you've gone again, cooeee". I could hear her, but not the other way round. Really nice lad helped in John Lewis in High Wycombe - well worth finding something to go and ask him about another time.
Ain't Nobody Here
What kind did you get, Tessa? Just so I know what to avoid .
Paola
It might be worth a try ANH. Mine did the same recently. It would not hold its charge at all. I also leave it on 24/7 and used it very little. I spent £12 on a new battery from Nokia and it is like new
Tessa the Duchess
What kind did you get, Tessa? Just so I know what to avoid . Just some cheap Nokia 2670 contraption I am PAYG so can't get a really snazzy phone for free It's awful, I hate the ring tones and I still can't work out how to make spaces when texting so I have to run the words altogether It's got to go, I miss my old one boo hoo. Tessa.
Ain't Nobody Here
I've had a look at some of the reconditioned ones from Orange but can't really see one I want . I like mine (it's a £30 Motorola W220, basic but has what I need). So I've bought a battery for it from Ebay - only £4.61 so even if it's not the battery that's gone phut I'm not too much out of pocket! Now I'm imagining hoards of people texting me & phoning me and not getting through . The reality is, I'll be lucky if I have one text when I'm back "online" . Reikiranf
ANH, I bought a battery from Ebay it said it was a genuine Motorola but it didn't work very well and my phone kept cutting out, I was on the verge of getting a new phone but I went back to my old battery and the phone worked ok apart from needing charging every other night. I've recently bought another Motorola battery from http://www.4mobiles.co.uk and it's like I've got a new phone! I have a discount code for the website to get £3 off every purchase so if your battery isn't as good as you expected and you'd like the code PM me Amanda
redhotchick
I had a similar problem recently. It turned out to be the charger had a loose connection, not a problem with the battery. I only realised because I was lucky enough to have a spare charger.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Gah! Have you tried cans on string in the short term?! Mine died a couple of years ago (it really didn't like being drowned in a litre of water from a faulty, leaking bottle - thanks Evian!) and I was a long time off of a free upgrade. I got the cheapest phone I could find - a Samsung for a tenner from Carphone Warehouse, and it's great. The call/microphone quality is often better on cheapy phones because they don't have 900 other uses bunging them up. My partner got an emergency PAYG one for a tenner from the Orange shop which was a clam shell in a lovely red metallic colour. Again, it's very basic, but we love it because it looks like a shiny red beetle! Anna x
Ain't Nobody Here
Very odd, but this morning I tried the "on" button on the off chance and it started working . (OH's phone suddenly said "insert sim card" so I wondered if it was an Orange problem.) I'm charging it now and that's working too . Oh well, at least I'll have a spare battery for when it does finally die . (No missed calls or texts while I was "gone" !)
Valkyrie
That's good news, but you had to get another just in case. OH ordered a new battery for DD's phone which is slowly dying too. She will get it for Ch mas.
MedusA
She will get it for Ch mas. That remeinds me.....whatever happened to the "Ch****mas Thread"?
chickencam
My son's mobile started acting up a month or so ago and because we had bought for last Christmas from Argos we were able to take it back for repair, it came back within the week and had worked fine since, very pleased
