Just wondering, is there any way water can get into the Eglu? Or is it my girls doing wet poos? I line the droppings tray with newspaper and for the last week it's been looking quite soggy. Anyone else have this?

When I had my eglu no I didn't get soggy newspaper, but now I have my cube & 4 hens then yes, occasionally I do get soggy paper. I need to give my girls more bokashi bran to firm them up!

In this wet weather the moisture drips off of their feathers and falls on to the paper (thats what it's there for) plus there is also moisture in their pooh!

 

The eglu port door will not let rain in, but of course rain can get in through the "front" door

 

Don't worry just change the paper as and when necessary.

I've got a shower curtain over the run, so rain can't get in through the front door. Don't know how much rain would be on their feathers, as I don't really let them out if it's raining. Think it must be wet poo.

i think the rain sometimes drives in via the litter tray part...as its on an angle.., and there is a gap..... (mine that is)

Fairly certain my eglu is water-tight even when the rain drives horizontally at the nest box door.

Not aware of any leaks in my eglu. But the paper does get damper at this time of year than back in the summer. Even if it doesn't rain the air can be very damp and may affect the newspaper in the tray.

I have this problem every time I clean them out . I had assumed it was rain/moisture as they are on rather a slope. But I think I will try some Bokashi Bran to see if that helps. The girls dont get wet, now that I think about it, so cant think its a leak

I have had water underneath my poo trays in the last couple of weeks, only on one side so I'm guessing a little bit of rain must get in through one of the air vents and trickle down the inner wall. My poo trays remain bone dry though.

We have had some awful rain the last few weeks so its not too surprising.

Bit annoying though
