Advice please

Recommended Posts

I used to have guineas and my daughters had them too when they were little and now I would love some more for my youngest daughter. I have acube for my chickens and would love a piglu but have a few questions:

- are they really dry and warm enough outside all winter?

- do you need a proper cover to stop them getting wet?

- how many guineas can you fit in the normal piglu?

I don't have room for bringing them inside ( myprevious ones lived in the shed and came into the run in summer) but worry about the damp.

Now all I have to do is convince my family it's a good idea! :D

I can't comment on the piglu but we kept our guinea pigs outside in a wooden hutch all year round. In the winter i used to go and give them lots of hay every couple of nights. We did keep them in a sheltered area with brick walls and hedges for shelter.

We will be doing this when we get two more baby guinea pigs after Christmas for my little sisters.

Ours are happy in gpiglu all year round despite the adverse weather we get in Scotland. Having said that, we tend to have the cover on the run more often than not and ensure there is plenty bedding in warm weather. We have also positioned the gpiglu in garden at a place where there is some protection from driving winds and rain. We can see it from our big picture window in our sitting room and it is lovely to watch them running around trying to collect dried leaves that have blown into the run. We put tunnels (bought or made from cardboard boxes) in run to give them (and us) some amusement.
