Kid Lit Quiz - back and met famous people :)

Recommended Posts

DD is part of the school team that won the regional final for this competition a couple of weeks ago. That is the good news - the bad news is that we have to go to Newcastle (absolutely nothing wrong with Newcastle per se - it is just a heck of a long way from Hampshire!) for the national final.

TBH I don't really know why DD was picked for the team. She has read the first chapter of hundreds of books but soon loses interest in most of them! I am therefore a little nervous for her and for the team but very proud of the lot of them. It will be a great experience so please wish the team luck.

Well - just back from Newcastle where the weather was fabulous and we had a lovely walk along The Tyne this morning.

The questions in the quiz were so-o-o-o-o hard that out of sixty five I could have answered about five of them!

All of the kids up there were a credit to their schools and our lot were no exception. We were really proud of them and their attitude was exemplary.

We didn't win (infact we came quite close to the bottom) but that means that we don't have to organise a trip to Johannesburg so we are not weeping too much.

I was very excited because Harry Enfield and Richard Curtis were cheering on their sons and were right by us. It was one of those strange situations where you would normally have a chat with the people by you but you don't want to because you don't want to look as though you are hassling them. They were really friendly and it did add something to the day!

Thanks for all your good wishes everyone. Just off now to make sure very very tired DD gets to bed! (She has a football match at 9.30 tomorrow morning!)

I confess that I may not have noticed him had I not watched the recent Blackadder documentaries. I confess that I came over all juvenile and asked him for an autograph just before we left. I apologised for hassling him but explained that I thought that his work was excellent and that my son would be really pleased. He was really sweet about it and wrote, "thanks for asking," on the autograph.
