Pregnant and ate a bit of raw egg

Recommended Posts

Hi, I can not believe I have done it.

So careful all the time and today I was making a birthday cake for hubby and ate a spoonful of cream which had a raw egg yolk in it. It came from my girls, which are apparently fully vacinated so I hope it is fine, but would appriciate some reasurance please :?

That broght me to second question, do girls need regular revacinations like cats do?

You will be fine!

When you are pregnant, your immunity is slightly lowered, ( I think it's something to do with your body not rejecting the new little alien you are growing  ) but this makes you more prone to infections. The advice not to eat raw egg and soft cheeses is to protect you from things like salmonella and listeria which can be quite nasty, especially if you are pregnant.

However, the liklihood of catching salmonella from one of your own, fresh freerange eggs is absolutely minute. And yes, the omlet hens are vaccinated and the vaccines do not need to be boosted.

Hope this helps xx :D

Agree with Snowy - you will be fine :)

....and, you would not believe the things we ate and did in the good old days before we were told all these things

I went on a Big Dipper 10 times in succession before I knew that I was pregnant at the time  - not something you'd choose to do is it  - and I ate whatever I wanted.....the only advice 30+ years ago was that smoking caused low birthweight!

I have to say when I was pregnant with James I was smoking and all they told me then was "smokers have small babies".

My mum did too & I was just over 5lb, which compared to my 7lb 11 and 8lb pair, is tiny!

I was eating brussels pate like it was going out of fashion before I knew......

Like was said before - in the olden days!! we ate most things and never had a problem at all but now sometimes they say its good for you and then its not so who can tell!.

I smoked like a lum then and the first was 6lbs 12 oz - quite small and the second he was 8lb 11 oz and I dread to think if he had been any bigger! ouch so it really did not follow

I wouldn't worry, but then that's easy for me to say because I'm not pregnant (well, I hope I'm not anyway! ) I know from having 2 of my own that everything can be a bit scary. I cut myself with a rusty nail when I was pregnany with no.2 and panicked!

Enjoy your pregnancy. People do/ eat all sorts of things before they find out they are pregnant!

I had both my older children in France. We ate everything - pate, soft cheese, raw eggs with steak etc. The only advice my doctor gave me was "try not to drink more than one glass of red wine per meal". Not breakfast! I had no idea of the restrictions over here and when at a christening I had come back for after the girls were born, a friend, looking at my plate full of pate etc said "I bet you missed these the last few months". I gave her a blank look

I am not advocating throwing caution to the wind but different culture have different approaches and most of us survive it all...you will be fine :D

Thanks everybody! I kind of thought so, but got a little paranoid. I froze the cream and will usi it later (have only a few weeks to go now anyway ;-) ). But you are right, as always :D
