Have just ordered a along with bokashi, mealworms, a wintershade, extra egg boxes and a super glug.

 

Delivery date is down as next Friday (5th)

 

I know I'm going to love it, so why am I so worried I've ordered it?

I am excited, don't get me wrong, but there seems an equal sized bit of me internally going ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!

 

I cannot wait to get rid of my wooden house. My Dad made it (under sufferance) and its awful, but getting an eglu all seems a bit determined and final - chickens are taking over my life (its not a bad thing, but its a scary thing), and the delivery date is much much sooner then I expected!!

 

Am also worried about having my 4 in it? They are squashed in their current house (Two would be squashed in our current house as its so badly designed but thats a family feud for another thread lol) but will 4 (2 silkies [bantam size I think. They hatched out of bantam eggs but seem a big on the big side] a bitsa bantam and a large light sussex all fit? Am hoping to be able to let them out at times with the eglu now which should help, as currently the only way to get them in and out the house is to pick them up, and they don't stay still long enough!!

Well done on getting an eglu. I'm sure they will all fit in. I had 5 hens in an eglu at one time (their choice ) including a couple of very big girls and 3 medium hens.

Don't worry about the size at all, I couldn't believe it the first night I looked in on my four girls asleep in their eglu, there was so much room left over . They are much bigger on the inside than you think they are.

 

You are going to be just fine and red is a very colour.

Am more excited today, i think the shock of omg i did it has worn off!!

 

Am thinking about ordering a run converter, to give them extra room over the winter? Am thinking I will put a base down for it rather then move it every few days as parts of our lawn get very waterlogged and that is bad for chicken feet.

I ordered a converter after I got my eglu (I wish I'd ordered it at the same time and saved P&P!). It definitely makes a big difference to the room they have.

 

Having said that, I don't worry about the room in the run so much in the winter as they spend so much time in bed .

Well, I went ahead and ordered a run converter.

With the price changing, and the fact the lovely Omlet people remove VAT for us in the channel islands, it worked out to cost the same (old prices, no VAT removed) that it would to add a converter.

You've got similar set up to me now. I have 4 hens (mine are all hybrid size) happily in an eglu with a run + converter.

Wow I thought I'd replied to this!

It arrived Tuesday, and is semi complete. I've been leaving and getting home in the dark, so am waiting til I'm off on Sunday to put it together, then mite powder everyone, move them over and spoil them with mealworms I need to order some apple cider and garlic, and then on the 1st will start Verm-X, and we'll be good to go. I cannot wait to be rid of the hideous homemade wood house I have now. I plan to burn it
