poachedegg
Little Ruby, our 8 yr old rescue dog has gone off to the vets this morning for her lumpectomy. We have had her since February and the lumps have been there a lot longer. Good news is if her chest had been affected by them they wouldn't have done the op and left her to live her days out, but we have heard nothing, so they are obviously going ahead with it. She is a lovely little dog who has settled into life in our house really well - she just likes to be warm and comfortable, know we are there and go out for a walk now and then! The only time she ever barks is when the doorbell rings!

Ain't Nobody Here
Ruby looks adorable . I hope the op went well . Riley, our rescue dog, sounds just like Ruby. Everything you've said about her you could say about Riley .

poachedegg
Thanks for your good wishes.....and she's home! The vets rang just after lunch to say everything had gone ok - there were a few more lumps than expected, so had to make 3 wounds and the lumps would get sent away for examination. We were advised to collect her at 4pm. At about 2pm they rang again to ask us to collect ASAP as she was trying to dig her way out of the kennel, was crying and had totally destroyed her bed!! Ruby does have separation issues, but she is never like that at home - guess she just wanted to be at home. She is now back lying on the rug in the hall (her favourite place) but she doesn't look too happy and is obviously a bit sore as every now and again she gives a little cry - which is to be expected after what she's had done. Got to go back Thursday for a check up and stitches stay in for 10 days. .....today cost £500+. We did take insurance out when we got her as there wasn't any history on her, however with this and all her skin problems, can't see them insuring her next year without the premiums rocketing!! Joojoo
Bless her. Hopefully the results are good once the tissue samples have been checked out. What a little sweetheart - she probably knew you were worried about her and wanted to get back to you

poachedegg
Thanks everyone - she is feeling a bit sorry for herself today, but other than that seems to be coping well with it........far better than I would have!
dancing cloud
She looks lovely - a real sweetheart! Glad the op went well and for good results. After all that, I expect she's entitled to feel a bit sorry for herself and she's probably expecting a little extra fuss and a few more cuddles to make everything alright again (and probably going to get them too! )

poachedegg
To our horror she jumped up on the low sofa in the kitchen this morning .....I was cringeing as she did it.....but she seemed fine. I had this vision of the stitches pinging!!
poachedegg
Ruby went for a check up yesterday and everything is looking ok - because she is on steriods for a skin disorder, and they can slow down the healing process, they have decided to keep her stitches in for another 10 days yet. She is quite happy in herself - though she can't have any exercise yet.

poachedegg
Updated to say that Ruby had her stitches out this morning - 4 days early! Her samples have come back clear and she can start having 10 minute walks in a couple of days. She has been absolutely no bother at all.....what a star.
