Cinnamon
Did anyone see it last night? I really enjoyed it, & picked up a couple of nice things to try out over the holidays, like those cheese straws. It was nice to se Copas turkeys on there too The show made me feel all Christmassy & warm, or maybe that was the Whisky Mac I enjoyed while watching it........... I think in one of the next shows they go to Henley, but I missed then again
Mrs Webmuppet
I watched it, whilst making a nativity outfit out of a ladies baggy tea shirt and a length of gold glittery ribbon...........oh the things we Mums have to do! I may have a go at the bagels, especially as their ones aren't chewy. The cheese straws looked good too, I wonder if I could use a different kind of cheese ( I don't like blue cheese). moochoo
It was fab, wasn't it? Even though I shan't be having all the Christmas fayre this year I still loved the programme. I think their humour and generosity is something very rarely seen on tv today. I loved the bit when they were at the school and the kids were being Si and Dave - brilliant! Rhapsody
I liked the show and am going to give the cheese and ham straws a whirl. I was upset to see those turkeys had been debeaked though but at least they were out in the sunshine.
chickencam
It was funny seeing them be all Christmassy when it was obviously only about September in most sections They are a great pair really entertaining, The section with the children was lovely especially the little girl who described her christmas morning

Janty
My technician at school loves the hairy bikers. I am always bleating on at the children that the ingredients they put into their food determines how it tastes in the end. She said she thought of me when one of them said to camera, 'Don't use marg, it's "Ooops, word censored!"'. It made me laugh too.
Lydia
I've always put orange rind in my mince pie pastry but it never occurred to me to use the orange juice (d'oh, seems obvious now! ) I have a batch of super orangey pastry currently chilling in the fridge right now
Paola
I never saw it but I did see them at the NEC bike show browsing
Cinnamon
First batch of parma ham & Gorgonzola cheese straws are now cooling on a rack, & they smell wonderful I used celery seeds to top, which I have never tried before - they are very nice & really unusual. A bit Fennel like in taste. My first choice would have been poppy seeds, but I couldn't get them anywhere
Egluntyne
I liked the look of their mincemeat and the orange flavoured pastry.
Lesley
I'm going to try the cheese straws - I have some home-made parma style ham and I bought some celery salt from Anglesey Sea Salt when i was there - just need to decide on a cheese now.... Did they use puff pastry or shortcrust? - I can't remember. I'd better buy some puff pastry I think.
Mrs Webmuppet
It was puff pastry ( they used the ready made stuff).........

Guest
...It was nice to se Copas turkeys on there too we're getting a copas turkey this Christmas as we read that the welfare standards were extremely high. I didn't realise it was them as I was only half watching it but I did remark to DH that it looked like they'd all been debeaked. Does that happen with free range poultry does anyone know? I thought it was only battery birds that were debeaked.
Lesley
Puff, & it was celery seeds, not celery salt I know it was celery seeds - but I decided to use my celery seed salt......they did say you could use whatever you wanted to..... I have to find a use for the salt, and I'll probably use a less salty cheese.
Cinnamon
OK then. I had visions of you coating the outside of the already salty straws with it Mine lasted all of 2 hours in this house - they really are very good with a glass of wine
Lesley
2 hours? - I don't expect ours will last that long
Mel (& Paul)
We watched it this morning - fabulous - really Christmassy and some wonderful recipes - yum yum
WitchHazel
I really like the HB's. I tried their bagels yesterday. Very easy, tasted lovely - very moreish..... I found that the texture (inside) was more bready than bagely though. As we had decided to have bagels, poached eggs, proscuttio and foaming hollandaise sauce for dinner, I looked in my books for another bagel recipe, and I found one in my bread book (Linda Collister). The recipes were similar, but slightly different. The key differences are that LC's had malt extract in the poaching water (which I have in my cupboard as I make a fruity loaf in my breadmaker), they were poched for a shorter amount of time and baked in the oven at a lower temperature for longer; there was no honey/sugar in LC's. I made those as well, and they came out with a "proper" bagel texture. We had 4 of LCs for dinner, the rest are in the frezer. We're eating the rest of the HB's this morning for brekkie. chickencam
MY hubby made the cheese straws yesterday, they lasted about 20 minutes all eaten by my hungry ganets for their tea They were quite salty but this was balanced by the poppy seeds, we had the opposite problem Cinammon we couldn't find celery seeds Will try the florentines too and maybe the bagels. If anyone can't find the recipes, which my OH couldn't, they are in the food section of the BBC website. You have to go into the recipe search area and put in whichever product you want to make.
