Lewis
Hi there Does anyone have Alpaca's as we are thinking of getting one. Kind Regards I don't but I've worked with a llama and am interested in getting some work experience with them. They're best kept in pairs or more, and they can be halter trained at get quite tame, the best thing is that they poo all in one spot, and make a little pile so it's really easy to clean them out Good luck. chelsea
All I know is that there is a fully "ready to go" Alpaca farm near me for sale.... And I know someone who shears them for a living.... They are very good at protecting chickens from foxes apparently...
ruth1
They are very good at protecting chickens from foxes apparently... Ive heard that - dont Prince Charles Chooks have Alapaca's running with them as guards? ( maybe it's not him, but someone famous has im sure) They are lovely, theres a farm not to far from my horse that has some in a field, my steering's always wonky going round the roundabout as I'm to busy looking at the field
Trish
Yes it is Prince Charles who has them in with his sheep as they will attack foxes. They are generally lovely animals and they grow the most fabulous wool
Scramble
Ooh i want an Alpaca you'll make me very
Groovychook
Oh, it's our dream to have alpaca's one day! You would definitely need at least a pair and they cost a small fortune to buy! I did loads of research a few years ago and soon realised that a small lottery win would be required before I embarked on my dream project! Mrs AVP
I know people that have bred them that are wanting to give me two new babies. I have seen that they cost £500 which is the same as a dog. How much land do they need to live on?
Groovychook
As far as I can remember, you can keep about half a dozen on an acre of land... How exciting for you! Can't wait to see the pics if you decide to go ahead!
Mrs AVP
Hi I would love them but just trying to work out how much landed is needed to keep 2, not sure if our garden is big enough. They may need a field. Many Thanks
The Dogmother
A woman who came on one of my courses has Alpaca.... several if I remember rightly; she said that they are bets kept in a group of about 5 as they are very sociable. Not sure how true this is though.
Mrs AVP
Thanks, would love to have them but I feel that we don't have a big enough garden, and that maybe they are best kept in a larger number in a field. Is it the chicken courses that you do?
