**URGENT - eBay advice needed** SORTED THANKS

Recommended Posts

How could I be so stupid? I sold a spare set of wooden roosting bars on eBay and forgot to weigh them, so I just put my standard P&P charges (£5.00).

Of course today, when I went to the post office, they said they were too heavy for 2nd class post and the cost would be £11.10 1st class or £10.99 Parcelforce!!!:shock::shock:

Is there anything I can do, or have I just got to bear the cost (and end up out of pocket) and learn a valuable lesson?

Edited to change title.

It might be worth looking into a courier, we had a small rabbit/poultry house to use as an isolation unit collected from a shop in North Wales and delivered to us for £6.99.

It might also be worth contacting the buyer to see if they will split the difference with you on postage.

How have you packaged them? I wouldn't have thought that they were that heavy. There is a big difference in the weight of some cardboard boxes. We pack a lot of things in a good layer of bubble wrap then thick polythene rubble sacks £1 for about 8 from Poundland.

I have an idea that as the terms were already agreed, you will be responsible for the postage. Unfortunate though it is, the buyer would be able to give negative feedback, and possibly start a dispute if the price is altered after the item has been bought.

Let's hope that it will be cheaper to send the bars as 2 separate items.

Thanks for all your replies guys. I knew I could rely on your helpfulness. :D

But now I'm just cross!

Let me explain.....

I checked online for other couriers, but I couldn't find a local one cheaper. So then I checked the Royal Mail website, and having had the parcel weighed at 1.56kg, the website quoted the cheapest way to send it as Standard Parcel rate for £4.20!!!!!

So I took my parcel to a different Post Office in Wylde Green and they confirmed the postage was indeed £4.20. Apparantly Erdington Post Office is trying to get people to use Parcelforce, so aren't giving customers this option. I feel a strongly-worded letter coming on! Surely it cannot be right to withhold information to customers in this way?:evil::evil:

So, problem solved, but I'm left with a bitter taste in my mouth. I will ALWAYS weigh my items in future, so at least I've learned a valuable lesson today.

Thanks again.

That's very naughty - I'd be annoyed too. Good luck if you write!

 Unbelievable! And we wonder why they are closing post offices - that one isn't doing itself any favours is it! Glad you have it sorted anyway :D
