Lovely to see the photos of Baby and glad to hear she's doing well! :)

It looks like your girls are living in the lap of luxury in Henian Castle... all that space & a heat lamp too!! :D

Hi

The Henian Castle is 20 feet long x 10 feet wide x 6 feet high.

Has a corrugated metal roof, metal mesh wire and opaque pvc with green plastic mesh

over the top of it. This allows the sunlight though, but not the wind.

Mains is laid on to allow heat lamps and a clip on caravan light.

The base is raised 7 inches higher than the ground as part of the garden some times floods.

Hope this give you some ideas of the size we have given to our hens to allow them to free range in bad weather!

Best regards

plus Ginger, Mummy, Henrietta, Tango, Sparkle, Kitty, Blue Belle and Tinker Belle.

Hi Everyone

It is a very slow progress with Baby and her double fracture.

We have been told to not allow her to free range with the other hens and to ensure

that she is kept quiet. So at night she is living in her Penthouse cage in the bungalow

and during the day she is carried to her Eglu with run which is inside the Henian Castle.

She can socialize with the other hens and has her own feed , water etc. Her run has a

large piece fleece on the floor to make it easier for her to move around or should we

say hop around as she is every reluctant to put her other leg down.

More news later.

Best regards

Hi Ian & Valerie, Sound& looks like she's doing really well. My penny broke her foot last year and I didn't think she'd make as like Baby she was unable to do much for herself. However all our tlc paid off and within 6 wks or so she was walking but it was 4 months before she laid again. Keep it up :) As a nurse friend said to me nothing ever died of a broken foot. Fingers crossed for her :D:D Allisonx

Dear Allison

Thank you for your words of encouragement, we are trying all we can.

This evening after spending the day in the eglu with run which is inside

the Henian Castle, we brought her into the bungalow, after she had had her

medicine and her day intake of water via the dropper we put her down on

to the carpet and allow her to "free range".

Also we put down for her were meal worms, mash and water , she fed and

watered, then went on a tour of the room.

First by a form of hop but as she went around slowly, she was putting her

foot down the odd time but not for long.

:clap::dance:

We are going to allow her to do this every night from now on to build the

strength up within the leg. How long this will take is a guess of many weeks.

Shall try and post updates as soon as possible.

Best regards to everyone,

News Update 3 rd Feb.2009

Hi Everyone

Here in Preesall we have not had any snow but we are using that to are advantage the sun was out in our garden today. So just for about 10 minutes we allowed Baby to have a little bit of free rag but under the watchful eyes of both of us. As we did not want ant other hen to pick on her.

We were very pleased to see that the 2 Blue belles which we rescued from Darlington can and welcomed her and stayed with her whilst she was in the garden only one hen tried anything so she got removed and put across the garden then warned off every time she came close to her.

After her little bit of time outside Ian tried to get her back to the Henian Castle she gave him a hopping run but was very good and stopped to be picked up and put in her inner run within the Henian Castle.

This evening she went into her penthouse in our bungalow she fed and watered then waited until Valerie put in her special nest ( small round cat bed with fleece within the centre).

As soon as that was in the penthouse she got herself in to it and snuggled into it.

We covered her cage to keep the draft of her said night night and she was off to sleep in her curtained penthouse :!::!:

Thats all the latest news......... for now......

Best regards

HOT NEWS

Baby went to vets today and was discharged from them but we were told that if there are any problems it take her back.

We were also told that she might walk with a limp to start with and depending on how it goes she might not end up with any problems.

So we will see how it goes.

Thanks for all your help.

Best regards.
