Baby has double break in leg WITH UPDATES & photos HOT NEWS

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Today Friday we have noticed that Baby is more perkier than she has been the last few days.

Whether it is because the drugs she is on are working or she understands the help and food she is getting or it is everything but it really nice to see.

She had hen time again today but 2 of the ex bats tried to peck her but the did not get at her as Ian was on hand. They got told off!!

She is eating more normal food but is still getting a top up of treats. She has eaten mainly chick crumbs, grit , oyster shells and drank water with no help earlier today.

Treats which have been given are grapes, meal worms, corn, yogurt and is drinking water even if helped from a syringe. It real makes your heart melt seeing her asking for things in her own way and is so lovely to see.

More news updates later.

Best regards & thanks to everyone.

Hi,

I'm glad she's doing so well. One of my girls broke her leg a few months ago, and although not on the joint, it was a clean break - she wore a splint for about four weeks, then it came off and she hopped a little bit until the strength came back into her leg and now she is 100% well! Thought you'd like to hear that to give you extra hope!!

Hi Everyone

Thank you for all your comments it is so nice to know you are routing for her.

We have noticed a change in how she responds to us, she use to be a catch me if you can hen. Now she is so lovely to hold and responds to being hand fed, the other night Valerie gave her some brussels sprouts leaves which she ignored but when broken down to small pieces of leaves she eat with no problems. We had not realized just what to do with leaves because a lettuce leave can be put in to the run whole and the hens eat it.

Baby and the other hens like a warm mixed mash so she is getting that as well, along with oyster shell, grit, grapes, oats and all the other treats etc that we give her.

On Monday she goes back to the vets to see what the next stage is...... so will keep you all posted with the news.

Thanks to everyone

Best regards

The Monday Update After the Vets

Hi Everyone.

The Vets in St Annes On Sea says that Baby is making fairly good process and would like to see her on Monday 2 Feb to x ray the leg and most likely sort out the cast on Baby leg.

So we have been told to keep up the good work.

So we will update this site whenever we can.

Best wishes

Hi Everyone

Has been a few days since there was a update on the news.

Baby has had to be taken back to the vets as the bandage and fitting on her legs had slipped.

The vet was so please to see the improvement in the leg injury and has made a new frame and re-fixed the splint. Whatever she has done it has made it easier for Baby to get into a seating position.

She is still laying eggs only missed once because of the time spent at the vets which if you think about it is marvelous.

Baby has to go back in about 2 weeks time so hopefully when she does everything should be OK but only time will tell.

She is eating more her normal hen food which we are very pleased with, shall try to remember to update this again soon.

Best regards

Hi everyone

Tonight because of various reasons within the home Baby was not brought in at 4 p.m..

What was really pleasing was that although she is in the Eglu run with the Eglu attached she had decided to put herself to bed in the nest box in the Eglu.

Which is marvelous when you think about hopping into the Eglu and getting on to the nesting area, Baby had also laid an egg.

She has made one un-scheduled trip into the garden. She got out of the run and Henian Castle.

The door to the run was not closed correctly so she hopped out and went for a "stroll" luckily she was spotted and quickly collected & return to the run and this time Ian made sure that the door was closed.

All we can say is she must be feeling a little better to hop out for a stroll but she was easy to catch so handling her is helping us.

She is more or less back on to her normal hen food.

More news later

Best regards

Hi Everyone

Baby is keeping us on our toes as she is now waiting each day in the morning for us to put her in to the Eglu run. She is still laying eggs which we scramble and give her back to her and the other hens.

Each night 2 or 3 of the other hens stay with her until Ian come to collect her to put her in her night time home ( a large dog cage which is inside the bungalow).

Usually when Ian goes back into The Henian Castle Run the other hens have put themselves to bed perhaps there might be one still up and that is usually Speckle as she loves a nightly cuddle before she goes to bed. He sorts out the run ready for the following day so it is ready for all the hens.

Will most likely be going to the vets again on Monday as the bandage has slipped again.

More news later.

Best regards

Here is the latest news about Baby.

Hi Everyone,

We went to the vets today because her bandage was not correctly fitted, it had slipped so we were expecting a new bandage and would be told that we would see how it went......

NO this did not happen we are very pleased to say that when the bandages are OFF as is the splint.

It is early days yet and we still have to give her the medicine and keep her in the Eglu run within the Henian Castle run lifting her at night so she is in her special cage in the bungalow.

This allows us to keep her safe and if there are any problems we can sort them out.

She has a round cat bed fitted with a fleece as her bed, fleece on the floor of the cage, water , food and oyster shell also available it is a bit like a penthouse.

When we bring her in from the run she gets her medicine from a dropper, followed up with several dropper full of water, this always bring a smile to both are faces as it is so rewarding to see her drink. She drinks it willingly which is lovely to see. She drinks it like hens drinking water off the run bars when the run is outside.

We just have to keep are fingers cross and hope that all the work done will enable Baby to make a full recovery, only time will tell.

Thank you to everyone who has given us support whilst we have been doing this.

Best wishes

Hi Ian and Valerie

Glad to hear that Baby is recovering well.

A very similar thing happened to our little Sharpay last year.

Loads of TLC and a few tears as a couple of times we made appointments to have her put down as she didn't look like she would make it

She still has a bit of a limp, but I am happy to report that on Saturday she laid her first lovely blue egg and another one on Sunday

Best wishes to you, keep up the good work, you sound like you are doing a grand job
