sti chick
the countdown has begun lol We pick our hens up on saturday morning Yippee can't wait! but first a daft question.....when we bring them home do we put then in the hen house or the run or doesn't it matter. They only have about a 20 - 30 min drive so shouldn't be too stressful for them. lin
Eggstatic!
when i brought mine home iput them in the house, then opened it after about five minutes so they could go into the run when they were ready.

Scottie
When we got our new hens in May, we locked them in the cube for about half an hour and then let them out into the run. This was so they would know it was their house! Sheila
sti chick
thank you for the replies, thats what we will do then....put them in the house for a while then open door to the run. Never done this before and have jumped in the deep end and brought 12 chickens . My parents kept chickens when i was a little girl and my mum is keen to help so it should be ok lin

helenmb
Fab news, you'll not be able to rest until you get them. The last two times I have got new girls I have always put them into the Eglu/Cube when they arrive so they find out where home is straight from the start. That way making their way to bed each evening will be less stressful for them. Good luck for next weekend - don't forget to post some pictures. Margalot
Hello, Bet youre really excitied today! We picked up our first ever hens last Saturday and can honestly say we have been having best fun all week. Nothing has beeen done this week except watch them and talk to them and storke them etc etc!! We have a cube and put them into the run on the first day..........this was then followed by much nervous watching at dusk when one of them seem to get a bit agitated and my OH had to catch her and pop her in the cube via the nest box bit! The others were having none of it though and seeing as we do not have the walk in run I had to crawl through tiny run door on my belly( trying to ignore the poop) and pop them into the cube! However I am pleased to say the clever girls have done it all by themselves ever since and they seem to have their own little routine at bedtime. I will warn you though I was awake at 5am on their first morning just waiting for it to get light so I could let them out! Have fun, they are such beautiful creatures

She is lovely, slighlty heavier built than the average chook, she marches around, like a seargent major . She lays beautiful pale eggs as well. Can't wait to see piccies of your girls once they arrive
moomin
They all sound lovely sti chick I think most little brown hens are friendly, and the Corals (I think) are similar to the Amber Stars/links and most on here say their's are friendly. I would love a Sussex - a Buff one
helenmb
I think the Brown Nicks are very similar to the Omlet Ginger Nut Rangers. I know other people who are forum members have this breed so hopefully you'll get some info from them today. Great that you are getting them ready for a weekend of Hen TV. You'll love it!! Cooks
the Corals (I think) are similar to the Amber Stars/links and most on here say their's are friendly. yes the amber stars are very similar except the ambers can get some lovely brown feathering through the white feathers, whereas the corals stay white. In theory, unless you have a dustbath magnet like Sugar! same temprement though I was told Edited January 16, 2009 by Guest
