Guest
Roll on 8:45am tomorrow.... I too have just had it pointed out to me that there is a distinct lack of gym shoes in the house, and last years lunch boxes were apparantly left at school at the end of last term, so could well have new civilisations growing in them by now. Cinnamon
Another 2 & a half weeks for us I still cannot get football boots for Cleo. Kids ones go up to a size 5, adults seem to start at a 7.....& she is a 6 AND they have to be plain black...... I am also wondering if the girls can share a hockey stick,or if I need them to have one each? Happy shopping,Ali
ali-s
7 weeks seemed such a long time at the beginning of July. Oh well she probably will not have PE the first day back. Shoe shopping later on though.

Cate in NZ
We're nowhere near organised yet either, but mine aren't back until 6th & 7th Sept respectively. So I've taken 5th & 6th Sept as annual leave days to get the essential shopping, and haircuts etc, done

Cate in NZ
There must be a great sense of satisfaction in being so organised Paola..... I always mean to get organised, then get overtaken by other things and it all goes to pot Mind mine are both returning to the same schools, and the existing uniform still fits and hasn't got any holes, so I might just wait until it actually needs replacing rather than buying deliberately for the new school year. But they do both desperately need shoes, so there's no escaping the shops
Guest
There's nothing worse than leaving the house early in the morning, getting to the shoe shop and finding that there is already a queue of about 12 sullen children all waiting to get their feet measured for shoes they hate! We are now all sorted for returning to school tomorrow - we can only buy uniforms through the school so that one was already sorted, got shoes and gym shoes sorted this morning, and granny came up trumps with 2 new Dr Who lunchboxes for them this afternoon! 15 hours and 20 minutes till the bell goes......... The Dogmother
Rosie doesn't go back until the 5th, and if the weather is good she will go back in her summer dresses. I need to see if her old winter skirts and tops still fit and get more if they don't. She also needs new winter shoes. I never seem to have enough time - I work all week and there is so much to do at the weekend. I can't believe that the hols are nearly over
ali-s
The town was so busy with parents doing last minute school shopping Natalie didn't get any school shoes because the ones she would like do not exsist They are a figment of her imagination I am not paying out good money for shoes that she will probably refuse to wear. We have checked her old shoes and I think they will be OK until we venture further afield on a quest for the perfect black shoe
Cate in NZ
They seem interminable at the beginning don't they, I always worry about how we'll fill the holidays, and then they simply whizz past and it's September before you know it I've really enjoyed this summer holiday, my children have been great company, worked around the house and got themselves summer holiday 'relief' paper rounds, meaning that they've been getting up early to report at the newsagent by 7am. They've not complained of being bored once. I'm actually going to be sad to see term start again. Oh, and I've not missed the sunday evening ritual of ironing the school uniform either..... except that it shows- my ironing pile is beyond a joke now, I must get the iron out

Guest
Ali, people complain down here that the autumn term is so long (Sept 5th - Dec 15th here). I was wondering what happens in Scotland. How does your school year work out?
ali-s
Both children are now on there way to school Just time for a quick coffee and back to work I must go Up here schools have a 2 week break in October, I am not sure of the dates yet. 2 weeks at Christmas and 2 weeks at Easter. No other weeks off then until the Summer which starts at the beginning of July. Schools are closed between Easter and Summer break, but they consist of the odd day here and there. These days are very annoying especially when children are young and parents work. Oh and one of the laces snapped on Natalies shoes She is wearing trainers today. No doubt I will get a note home about this I did tell Natalie to let her teacher know that I will buy new laces today.
ali-s
BTW Eater holidays up here are not at Easter They are the 2 weeks before Easter Schools starts on the Monday after Easter Sunday. This is annoying as well because if any of our family down south who have children wants to visit at Easter my children are back at scool. Guest
We just get one week half-term in October, with various long weekends and 'in-service' days to break the term up. My boys have gone back to school today, to a school that is still a building site, after holiday repairs over-ran. I'm surprised that they have been allowed to have children back, given the state of the dining room and adjacent corridors, and as we were leaving, we were told that 3 other schools in the area have had to turn the pupils away today for the same reason. Popcorn
They have gone back early haven't they Shona, or do ours go back late Yes, I would've thought they'd have sent the children home if building work wasn't completed.

Guest
In Surrey we have just changed the Easter holidays, so that they are no longer fixed around Easter. This year (2006) Easter fell at the end of the two weeks, in 2007 it will fall on the middle weekend and then in 2008 Easter won't be in the Easter holidays at all! We will have a long weekend in March (I think Good Friday to Easter Tuesday) and then the Easter holidays will be in April. I can't get my head around your school terms. If you get two weeks in October but then no half term in the summer, that means you have the same amount of holiday as we do. Our children have 39 weeks at school altogether - 190 days. Is that the same as you have?
