My gorgeous Welsummer Willow managed her first egg today.

Its small, beautiful & very,very dark brown.

 

I didn't expect anything from her until the spring now, as she is a pure breed.

 

Its the egg dance for me then!

Wow, what a beautiful colourful collection... My hubby is coming round to the idea of more chickens so I'm hoping to have a rainbow of eggs in the nestbox in the future!!!

Well done Willow! Karin, my Welsummer, crouched for the first time today and I gave her a cuddle to congratulate here, so I think I'm only a matter of weeks away from my first lovely dark egg!!

I just wanted to update this thread with some more news.

Willow has produced 3 eggs now, all small but beautiful.

Yesterdays egg was a really deep mahogany colour - much,much darker than the one in the photo above

I will try to take a photo later.

 

I am totally delighted with it & with her. I have always wanted dark brown eggs & after 2 hiccups where a hen who was supposed to do dark ones actually did pale ones,I have finally got my wish.

Ooh Sarah, that's so exciting, and it gives me hope that Jasmiine's lightish brown eggs may get darker too. When I looked at the pics of Welsummer eggs on one of teh Welsummer websites, I'm very excited!
