Thank you for being there, my mind just panicked - hoping there was something i could do but .. within minutes of replying Emily died.

:( She died warm loved and peacefully in my arms.

Now to wait until the family come home .

Its so sad but I feel honured to have met, rescued and shared time with such a spirited curious funny very friendly Emily, to have given her months of 'heaven on earth' was our pleasure as much as hers, she was such a character - she will be sorely missed by me and all neighbours who's gardens she loves to escape to and visit, sampling their delicious delights!!!!

Emily sounds like she had a fun and happy life with you and it is wonderful she had your comforting presence and touch at the end. I am sure all us humans, given the choice, would like a life of love, fun and adventure like Emily and to have the comfort of a loved one when death claims us.

Hi all, Thank you for your kind thoughts & words... all appreciated.

I've rang our vets & they were going to charge us £24.38 for the 'disposal' service, & needed to make a new account with their for our 'dead' pet. we'll need its name etc then we can charge bill to account. I said I'd get back to her. I then looked up & telephoned another Referral Only Veterinary Surgery place which is just around the corner from where we live. The girl was so lovely on the ohone, she was so warm & so sorry to hear about the loss and would I mind holding the line for a few moments whilst she speaks with her colleagues. Within a few moments she was back online, warm & so caring . . she said we'd be more than happy to help you, we have ours cremated and they're picked up on a Friday evening. Please bring her round when you feel ready. she then , almost sounding apologetic said, there will be a small charge for the cremation as we have to pay it. she take my number and she'd ring me back with the price if it was more than a small charge. She rang me back anyway & said it would be £9.30. . . that they would keep her in cold storage until collected. To take her once we'd said our goodbyes, as I explained our daughter was due home from school and it was her chicken. Guess where Emily is going .. . politeness doesn't cost anything but makes the world of difference. I think Francesca will prefer to take her round with me .

Huby wants to bury her in our garden but I think the foxes will just dig her up .. which i suppose is good for the fox but don't quite fancy encouraging the cycle of life in our garden just yet!!

Many Thanks again.

Thank you again for the warm kindness. Well after a very tearful time with our daughter, both daughter & hubby didnt want me to take Emily to be cremated, I can't believe they both wanted to dig up the woodland area of the bottom of our garden where Emily loved to forage!! After much debate .. I've succumbed to their wishes!!! We've been outside digging, with torch ligt in fog & mist a very, really really deep hole. They both wanted her buried in the pyjamas that we wrapped her in to keep her warm. I am unsure if its wise, but she's buried now.

Now for a more peaceful night. Blessings to All.
