It's still visible tonight, but because of sunset times and angles it disappears halfway over the sky. On Saturday though it will be very bright and will cross the sky right overhead.

Just thought I'd let you know, I saw it tonite, at 3 minutes to 6, beautiful clear sky and it was unmistakable.

The 'other' space station, more commonly known as Venus (lol) was really bright and a good reference point if you haven't got a compass as the ISS is first visible off to the left of it.

Thanks for the heads up or I would have missed it.

My 7 year old swears blind it is Thunderbird 5 and John Tracy is running it!!

It does glide quite quickly across the sky. I used to see it in North Yorkshire, along with things like the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way

 

Darn light pollution, you folk in the country with the inky black skies don't know how lucky you are

 

I will look out for it on Saturday.

Thanks Dawn you saved me posting! Did you notice that it was slightly pink with the reflection of the setting sun?

 

It ran out of sunlight just over my roof, but tomorrow it will be visible for far longer and will 'go out' about 10-15deg above the horizon. Venus fair outshines it, doesn't it?

Should be 6.26 tonite - sky currently clear, and Venus very visible.

I think it will go over me quicker tonite as it says it will only be in view for 2 minutes here.

It did disappear suddenly, and I hadn't got my bin's with me either to make out much detail, but now I know what I'm looking for I'll we waiting to catch it later.

Saw it here, to the right of venus, but not visible for as long as I'd been told. It is much brighter now that they've bolted on even more junk!

We finally saw it last night! I was a bit doubtful, especially as Venus was looking a bit hazy through the cloud, but we perservered and then all of a sudden there it was. A bright light moving across the sky! Beautiful

Sure I saw it last night, somewhere on the M1 at some time between 6 and 7. There was just one very bright star and its a bit of a coincidence finding you talking about it here. I hadn't thought about the space station for ages. Bit eerie.

Hi Everyone

There are many things flying over us at night.

Where we live at Preesall near Blackpool we are on the high flight path for aircraft flying across the pond to USA.

We have BAe Systems down the road ( 15 miles away) so get all different types of aircraft from there, Blackpool airport gets the Red Arrows in the Summer plus local flight to Ireland, Isle Of Man, Europe and many sun blessed islands.

There could be odd things floating over head in the shape of U F O 's but who knows.....

We are at one end of Longsledale which the RAF use to practice their low flying.

We usually get two or three Tornado fly overs a week. They come in pairs from nowhere and make a heck of a racket.

Sorry to divert but doesn't it bother your chickens? mine were scared of planes to begin with but don't turn a hair now.

Our hens seem OK with what ever flies over head.

W are on a rota with the other local areas for low-flying duties, so we often get them coming over when they practice. I used to work near Brize Norton, now that was busy!

We get Chinooks (HRH had better not land on the cube ), Puma's, Lynx's and Gazelles. Occasionally Hercules at night (love that sound). Plus light aircraft and private jets from Blackbush and Farnborough - lots of wierd ones when the airshows are on. The hens only kick up a racket for the sparrowhawks.

Did anyone see the ISS last night? I was walking home, marvelling at the closeness of the moon and venus when I saw the space station right overhead and very bright - I had completely forgotten to look for it This was just before 6pm and a lucky sighting as it clouded over soon after.
