panic hens are ready Saturday not mid Feb

Recommended Posts

Well this weekend we thought we won't rush the changes to the run as we've got a while yet.

Phonecall today to tell us they are ready for viewing In the morning with collection on the 24th. So now there's a mad rush on. My Oh can only do work on the runon Sat as he's got a selection race on Sunday which we all have to go to.

So I'm going to have to do as mush as I can myself.

So was thinking

ranger

light sussex

silver sussex or speckedly

amber star

Maran Cuivree

Nib Bluebelle

should make a friendly flock of 6 OH and children are set on 6

Just looked at the website and they ALL look lovely. Nightmare that they are ready before you thought but how exciting. Six new chooks this weekend, bet you can`t wait.

I like the Amber Star myself.

So are you donning your overalls and running around the garden with power tools?

Yes, flipping cold day. I've cleared the area and started to treat the wood. Of all the days I've got to take son to chricket and then gom to an allotment meeting.

Just hope Oh doesn't come up with the stupied suggestion of collecting them on Tuesday. I've already asked if they will reserve them and they no but did say they thought they would have loads left.

I've so missed having hens in the garden, just so excited

In that case I would say yes to another superglug. If you want them to use it then giving them another method of drinking from the beginning might confuse them or make them unwilling to use it.

I'd go for an Amber Star. I have one and they're lovely. I'd also go for a Maran C. I have two of those and they are very friendly, nosey, happy birds.

Good luck,

Jan

That's good to know because I don't really know too much about the MC but they look so,so lovely and I like the idea of dark brown eggs.

The Amber Star is gorgeous (but I don't have one). I do have Marans and the brown eggs look fantastic - a warning though, I (and others) have found that they are not dark brown when they first start laying, but do become so after laying for a bit, so don't worry if first eggs not that chocolately colour, they will get there. Also I found mine took a wee while to get into lay, but well made up for it - supplying us will eggs all through winter when we had few eggs from any of the others.

Best of luck. I'd happily have any of those. :D Are you not fancying a blue egg layer?

yes I really do but everyone tells me they are very flighty so I think I'd be better getting something else. I'd hate for her to go into the neighbours gardens.

I took my sonn to chricket and bored the other Mum to tears about my new chickens :silenced:

Wow I didn't know you were from Bristol! I have got all my hens from Nibley and know the owner well. All of the hens are lovely and I've got 2 silver sussexs, a Light Sussex, a Bluebelle, a Maran Cuivre and a Colombian Blacktail. They are all lovely but I must admit that the MC is the tamest of all! she will hop on my lap and let me carry her round the garden AND the dog is in love with her! he follows her around licking her all the time!

I live just up the road in Winterbourne, I never knew I had chicken neighbours!

Hope all goes well and they all settle in well :D

Tom

P.S. Try and find the pair of Gold Partridge Pekins wandering around, they are lovellyyyy! they hop on your feet while you walk round!

If your in Winterbourne have you ever been to the village Siston, there is a fab poultry farm which is also listed on the omlet supplier list. It's fab I normally get my hens there but they are more to buy and this time Annie doesn't have what I'm after.

I will look for the pekins. It's nice to hear from someone who's been to NBF as I couldn't really find anyone who has apart from the odd person.

Hello fellow Bristol chicken people!

I live in Weston-In-Gordano and I was keeping an eye out for fellow Eglu people in Bristol! Perhaps we can form a Bristol holiday rota..............

I have been like a kid at Xmas since I ordered my (green eglu) Eglu at the end of last week and it was scheduled for delivery today while I was at work. Our plan was then to go to Annie at Siston to look at choosing chickens on Saturday. She sounds lovely and really helpful.

Disaster struck! I came home tonight to find that not only had we received a (pink eglu) Elgu instead of a green one but there was only half an Eglu in the box - just the base part  How upset am I!!!!!!

I have sent an email to Omlet and I'm desperately hoping they can get a replacement through to us in miracle time - wish me luck :anxious:
