eggalp
Hello, advice really wanted please............i have recently noticed Ginger has been plucking feathers from Greys neck, although she does this very gently i am concerned as her neck is becoming quite red. I thought this could be due to boredom so i got them a peckablock, but this has not stopped it. i have taken two photos, one is a bit blurred (taken between jumps for lettuce!). I am wondering whether to spray her with the purple spray, or anti peck spray or to try and get some sudocreme on it. Its not that noticable unless she stretches her neck, but i am worried about her bleeding (i dont think she has so far).

ClaireG
I havn't any first hand experience of this myself, i would use purple spray though and think about using an anti- peck bit on the offending chicken. Link below for bit. http://www.domesticfowltrust.co.uk/products/info_apb.html
Groovychook
I would put a 'bumpa bit' on her. It's a different shape to the anti peck ring and stops the beak from doing any damage at all. You can get them from The Wernlas Collection or I think a couple of omleteers bought a bulk amount of them recently. I fitted one on my naughty girl and it was an instant success! Barkisland
Another vote here for purple spray on the peckee, and a bumpa bit on the pecker.
cordelia
i agree I'd try the purple spray, I got some from the local pet shop which has masses of equine products..
Egluntyne
A bumper bit on the naughty girl. There shouldn't be any need for any treatment to the other girl once the pecking has been stopped.
eggalp
Thanks kind folks - looks like its going to be a bumper bit then Once its on does it stay on forever, or is it just a temporary thing to teach her a lesson?
Egluntyne
They generally stay on for a few weeks Inevitably they wear out. Often their job is done, but now and then a naughty hen has to wear one permanently.
