Hooked on chickens is this possible

Recommended Posts

I admit that I am a novice when it comes to keeping chickens but I think I have an addiction to chickens LOL. I find myself reading various forums about chickens, to the point I have dreamt about chickens. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Help me, I’m losing my mind…. :shock:

Not just possible - inevitable I'm afraid :lol: !

I started off with my 3 little hybrids last summer & have just this week gained 4 adopted Orpingtons on Friday and 4 ex-batts yesterday :shock:

My family think I'm nuts & I have 3 sets of chooks in 3 different areas of the garden & it takes an age to sort them all out at the mo until I get into the routine properly, but do I regret getting the extra ones....do I heck :roll::lol:

I have got friends invited for lunch on various days this week specifically to meet my new girls.....and I'm sure I bore everyone I speak to totally rigid with my chook-chat! Oh yes and how many times a day do I quote Omlet comments/advice :oops: ?! I can't think of any one else I know who would take "you look look a chicken farmer" as a compliment when they pitch up at school in wellies & straw-covered fleece!!!

It's fun "losing your mind" & hooked on chooks, welcome to my world Dave!!

Nothing you have said sounds out of the ordinary to me Dave, chicken dreams included - but that doesn't mean that it is normal, just that I am a crazy chicken addict too :D:dance::D ! I suspect there are more than just a few on this forum. With me it was instantaneous (I started with the intention of getting 4 around a year ago), and I don't even have a tendancy to get addicted to things. Well done on admitting your addiction, but let's hope it is not the first step in you overcoming it, let's hope it is an addiction you decide to accept and cherish!!!

:lol::lol::lol:

Think they should put it in a sticky that chickens are seriously addictive!! Perhaps we could all set up 'hens anonymous' - no wait, think we have.... it's called the omlet forum! :oops:

Still, we're pretty harmless on the whole I think, the children are really enjoying all the extra cakes and my best friend says I haven't stopped smiling since I got them!

Totally addicted here! I'd wanted chickens for years before my OH finally succumbed last year and said we could have a few. Bought five, soon decided that wasn't enough so persuaded him to buy me a bigger coop (this one will fit about 20!) and then bought six more. Sadly one died so that leaves us with ten. Got an incubator for Christmas and yesterday our first six chicks hatched. Set another 12 eggs in it today :lol:

Yep, I dream about them most nights.

Went to the feed merchants today and them 3kg sunflower seeds, new and larger topp hat feeder, ramp so I can put another floor into their run.

I love my chickens and my cube. Mum's at school think I'm mad but my children are the ones who get invited to play all the time so that the favour is returned.

My new hens already know to get eggcited if they see me walking up the steps, as I'm very likely to have something for them to eat.

I'm addicted and I don't care who knows it :dance:

Dave, hate to tell you but it gets worse...... the addiction doesn't wear off even after 2 years. Last year on holiday in Dorset, kicked out of the caravan at 10am and hubbie has said "last day of holiday what shall we do?"....... my reply....."go home and let the chickens out :oops: ".

V V Sad. :D
